Did anybody catch the Barrett-Jackson this past week-end? On friday there was a yellow 1951 Commodore 8 Conv in yellow, sold for $59,000.

I thought it was interesting listening to Craig Jackson basically beg people to bid up prices on cars. On one he said "that's half of what it should be." Yeah, maybe last year, but this ain't last year, is it?



I managed to stump my BiL who has owned and raced Mini Coopers all his life. He had never heard of the Mini "Jolly" that B-J auctioned off for $48K. It had cut-away doors and wickers seats and was one of three built. He had to ask the definitive Mini expert what the heck it was.

You mean add the 10% the buyer fee is 10% the seller is 8%. They get you coming and going and its 15% if you buy over internet.

Don't forget to add transportation costs. Oh, and sales tax and other fees if the car is registered and licensed.

For those who follow these auctions--has there been a decline in values of the Barrett-Jackson and other major auctioneers?



I ask because I believe the world economy is in the early stages of what will be a major deflationary depression where values of all asset classes will fall and some will fall dramatically before this depression is over.





I haven't followed the major auctions closely enough over the years to know if the current decline in high-end autos is significant or not and would like to know if the people who do follow these auctions see a significant decline in values from last year.

There maybe a decline in values for some of the cars. But there still seems to be a very lively amount of high end car sales going on. I am not speaking just of the public auctions either. There are lots of car sales moving in the backgound the values do not seem to be diminished for that class of cars. I agree that there is an overall decline in asset values, but I believe this to be true of general durable goods. I do not believe it extends to the normally high dollar valued goods to include motor cars.

That's pretty much right on the money, and my understanding as well.

I had a friend who was there and he said this car was drop dead gorgeous..... good buy at 59000..... and rare to boot...

I was there Fri night when the 51 Hudson conv. went across the block. I talked to the fellow who drove it on stage says it belonged to his boss who is a dealer in AZ. he had no idea where it came from and the dealer only had it for a couple of months. It had to be jumped to start it. It was lot 971.1

Once on stage the auctioneer stated it "once belonged to a long time HET president"

Yep. I didn't believe anything said about the car. Also under the hood the car had some bad paint in places. and the tail lights and brake lights didn't work.
