Introduction

Thought I would introduce myself here as well as the main board above. I won't duplicate the whole introduction here though. So here's the short story:

I'm new to this forum, but I've been around cars my whole life. I gave up on a couple of project cars (50 Fords) when my second set of twins was born a few months ago. The first set, 3 year old boys, can turn wrenches already, but I'm not quite ready for them to "help" me yet!

I'm now thinking that drivers are the way go. I picked up a 62 t-brid convertible a few months ago, and probably this summer I'll be looking for a 51-53 Hornet with Twin-H power. I need something that doesn't need any major work, mostly maintenance and minor issues.

Which is why I'm here. I've never owned a Hudson, and I'd like to learn as much as I can, as well as keep my eye out for the car I'm looking for. This looks like a very knowledgable forum, and I'm looking forward to taking part.

I'd like to advise you to join the Hudson-Essex-Terraplane Club, Timothy. It's only $25 a year ($30 if you want your newsletter on time, hee-hee!) and worth every penny if you have a long-range interest in Hudsons. The magazine alone is worth the price of admission. You'll learn a lot about Hudsons just leafing through it. The next thing is to locate a Hudson meet somewhere near you so you can view the cars in person and speak to their owners about the great (and not so great!) things about owning a Hudson.

You can go to the homepage of the HET Club http://www.hudsonclub.org/ to see a calendar of events, learn more about joining up, and find a number of Hudson-related websites. There's also a link to our chatroom, though I warn you that it's usually pretty quiet over there. Anyway, welcome to the madhouse!
  • Thanks Jon. I will join the club. Unfortunately, here in New Mexico there is usually not much going on. I noticed on the club site that there is a New Mexico chapter, but their website is gone. I'll still try to contact the officers listed for that chapter and see if they are still active.
  • You are in luck Sam Jackson the editor of the WTN our Hudson magazine lives in Santa Fe he will show you everything Hudson.

Welcome aboard Timothy. And I will echo Jon B's suggestion that you join HET AND I will add join your local chapter.

In New Mexico it's the Zia Chapter and the fellow you want to contact is Jim Seals - his email is jseals3922@aol.com . He's editor of the Zia Chapter newsletter. He lives in Albuquerque.

I've been around this HET club for a lot of years - next year will be 40 years. Over the years I've been a member of a few clubs, but 40 years later I'm still with the HET Club, which ought to tell you something.

HET is not so much a car club as a big family. I've always maintained that as important as the cars are, it's a close run race between the cars and the people.

So hope you'll join our happy little band - this is going to be a big year. We're celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Hudson Car Company AND the 50th year of the Hudson Club. Aren't many car clubs, if any, that have lasted this long.

You drop an email to Sam Jackson and he'll be happy (as Tomator said in that Cars movie) as a tornado in a trailer park to send you a copy of the White Triangle News. His email is fortyqtpi@earthlink.net - drop him a note. Sam lives in Santa Fe.

  • This link is a good place to start looking for classified ads....

Also, are you looking for a two door coupe or sedan?
  • Thanks Guys. Really good info. I'm sending off my app to the HET Club today, and I'll contact the locals as well. Great classified search too, I haven't seen that site before.

Missed this question earlier. I just don't like the "Hollywood" coupe. I like hardtops in other cars, but it just doesn't carry the lines of the Hudson. Four doors would be a little easier for the kids, but I like the looks of the two door better. So I would really take either.
  • Old Bird,

Welcome to the forum. You'll also want to visit Ken Cate's site as it is a great tech site.

As you have a young family I would recommend a 4 door sedan or a 2 door broughm car for good legroom. I personally like the coupe the best but it has very tight legroom in the rear.

And that is my 2 cents.
  • Howdy Timothy,

I know of one fairly decent driver, 52 Hornet sedan fitted with Vintage air available in San Antonio. Let me know if you want more info
    Rick

The coupes are very cramped for family stuff
  • Welcome Bird!

These guys are great car owners and believe me they FIERCELY love their Hudsons! You won't find a friendlier and more helpful bunch. I frequent here to read stories about Hudsons 'cause of my '36 Terraplane, and I've learned a bunch about not only what makes the car tick, but the folklore of the Hudson. And there is a lot.

Guys--Old Bird and I have met on the shoebox forum (49-51 Fords), another passion of mine...slim

Thanks Rick. I'm more in the information gathering stage right now, figuring out exactly which models have what features, what I like and don't like, what common issues there are and which ones I'm able to deal with in my situation, etc. I'll be looking to buy probably this summer, but I'm not quite ready yet.

Thanks for the info though, and I might contact you again this summer to see if this one is still available.

Hey Slim! Yeah, shoeboxes are another vice. Unfortunately I had to let go of a couple recently because they were more projects than I can handle in the time I have now. I will be getting another one this year though, they're fun little cars.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could love just one car? I can handle loving just one woman, but not just one car!
