27 Super Six Coach help needed

Hi H E T ers! I posted the following request at the Yahoo Hudson group but have had no answer as yet so am coming to you all with my problem. My husband just recently purchased a 1927 Hudson Super Six Coach (VIN# 783,529). It had been garaged for the last 20 yrs. with minimal maintenance performed during that time. We trailered it home and his first challenge was to "unstick" the cork clutch. That done he found a hole into the water jacket in the cylinder head. Had that repaired and now he (& his son) are working on the carburetor. Purchased a rebuild kit from the
Carburetor Shop and he needs information on the float level for the "Marvel" carburetor. Also, what is the correct compression on the cylinders? And, finally, the engine runs rough but seems to
smooth out when you hold down the flusher plunger & cap assembly ("tickler"?). Any tips,

Rather difficult to reply in detail here, but the Marvel carburettor needs specialised treatment. The flapper valve has to be a close precision fit in the throat, the spring has to be the correct tension, the jets have to be clear, the float level has to be 1/8" below the level of the low-speed jet, the low-speed needle has to be adjusted at a base point of 1 to 1-1/2 turns out, and the heat by-pass has to be checked for leaks from the exhaust. That's just for starters. the compressions should be somewhere around 70 to 90, depending on temperature, cranking speed and oil viscosity, but all should be even. A comprehensive tune-up instruction is impractical on a forum lke this.

Thanx Uncle Josh for picking up my message in the chat room and plugging it into the Hudson forum. I'm just learning my way around all these car sites. My husband may be able to put a car together but he hates computers, so it becomes my job to mine the internet for the info he needs. Thanks to great "guardian angels" like you and Jon B (who helped me locate the Forum!) I'm finding lots of useful stuff. Now my only problem is I will have to buy paper by the truckload so I have enough to make printouts for my husband to read. Thank goodness for Costco!

First welcome aboard - I would have posted this sooner but I just spent the last few days in Mississippi visiting a friend of mine and tho I had access to a computer - it was just so much easier for me to wait until I got on my computer.
