Progress

Since I have been out of work since Oct, I have made a fair amount of progress on my C-8.

It looks good in the photos but I want to redo or replace some of the exterior stainless trim. Also it needs some chrome work on major items like bumpers.

I am installing the original interior and I had to make some repairs in the door panels. I am going to drive it for a while before making a decision on whether to replace the whole interior or just pieces. I am not satisfied with the way the carpet is looking and I will probably redo it. Were all stepdown carpets brown? That is the color of the sample I have.

I had a request for some pictures.

Original door panels were faded from being left out in the weather by the previous owner. He was going to put in the 53 pattern.

The blue carpet just doesn't seem to match right.

It was a real challenge installing a hood by myself. Only one scrape on the top of a fender, which since has been repainted.

Depending on work I hope to have it at Pontiac in July.
  • A short photo history of the restoration.

This first picture is of the C8 circa 1950:

When I bought it in 2005 and one owner later:

This car was a purchased body with no frame rust. Every thing was moved over to it.

I decided to complete the tear down and make sure all body repairs were made.

    Pat,

It really apparent that you have been steadily working on your Commodore to get it this far (especially when your were working a Job 40 or 50 hrs a wk).

While small things can be tedius & time consuming, the hardest work is behind you. Thanks for sharing your progress.

Pat - They actually had a dark grey-blue carpet that would blend with your original interior. It however, may be hard to find nowadays. It will be like trying to match the blue-green color on the '53 cars - nearly impossible. You might check with Jack Miller in YHpsilanti MI. He has had some good contacts on interior materials in the past. His address is: 100 E. Cross St., Ypsilanti MI 48198 (734) 482-5200 or e-mail at: HEThudsondealer@ypsiautoheritage.org (drop the HET)

By the way, your car looks great!

    Pat-

Looks beautiful! Have you thought about trying a beige/taupe colored carpet? It'd go real well with the exterior color, too and tie the two together.

Thanks for the pics, I was at least one of the folks asking for them.

Very nice! Seems like I don't see very many 8's, especially as nice as yours. Great job.:)

Thanks for all the nice responses.

Russell it was your request that stopped my procrastination and got the pictures posted, I know how this group likes photos.

I did make some interior repairs with a taupe colored vinyl and it matched real well. I bought that blue carpet with out any other samples with me and when I put it in the navy carpet just does go with the blue/green shade of vinyl. I made a bad cut in installing the carpet, although I can repair it I think I will just buy another piece and change the color.
