Need help on 51 hud pacemaker

We just put her inthe garage and starting all over again. My hubby bought it too many years ago thinking he would have it done for our son, named Hudson when he turned 16. Well as you can guess it did not happen. My son just put her in his garage to get started. It did run at one time but the rabbits actually ate all of the plug wires so we do not know where to start on the first plug wire on the dist. cap. I do know that firing order, 1-6-3-5-2-4 right. Just need help hooking the wires up to the cap. Any help would be appreciated. I am so happy to find this forum, I am sure we will be asking a ton of questions.

  • Welcome

I would trap them rabbits and make a stew! All kidding aside... take a look at my website. The connection is below... there is a lot of information there as well as connections to other web based information sources. If you can not find what you need there ... post the specific questions here and there will be a knowledgeable person who can provide you the information sought.

    Good Luck and again WELCOME.
  • Rotate the engine until you can see the timing mark on the fly wheel then remove the distributer cap and look at where the rotor is pointing, that will be number one. From there you can just keep following the rotation to each plug, six will be the next one, then 3 and so on.

  • Hello:

Welcome to the forum. Best site for good info on Hudsons. I had a similar problem when trying to start my Wasp the first time. Old Motor Manual books, and others on this site are helpful. Keep new wires long until you determine where they go. Cut later. Good luck, Hudsonly, Bob
  • You have the fireing order wrong. It is 153624 and if the oil pump drive gear is lined up correct the # 1 plug wire should go in the cap at about1:30 oclock. If you just go the timing mark on the flywheel it can be ready to fire on 1 or 6. Remove the plugs and put a cork stopper in #1 hole turn engine by hand and when cork blows out that cylinder is ready to fire when piston is at TDC.

The firing order is 1-5-3-6-2-4 I'm surprised no one told you that that answered. Remove all spark plugs, then have someone hold their thumb on the # 1 cylinder, that's the first plug hole from the front, then turn engine clock wise until the person feel his thumb being pushed up, then turn engine slow till the timing mark can be seen in the opening above the starter, line it up with the pointer on motor plate, you are now dead center number one. Remove distributor cap and notice where rotor is pointing, that's #1, then set cap on and see where the rotor points to a plug wire hole. Then start your wires, 1-5-3-6-2-4 in clock wise rotation. Good luck, Walt.
  • Thak you guys for all of your help. You are all right, I messed up on the firing order. Just missed it. old saying (too young, too old, and just right) LOL! I can not beleive all of the help that we will find here. This is one great forum, actually better then one that I actually pay for monthy for my love, Horses! I really app. eveything that is here Thank you guys for all the help and will probably ask through this whole restoation. Short story, my son's name is Hudson and his father, my hubby thought that it woudl be awesome to buy a Hudson for him that would be 50 years old when he turn 16. It was actually driven home about 70 miles away. We had it sanded and painted back about 15 years ago and then it went to the way side. It is time to get it back on it feet. I will keep you updated and thank you all for all the help!!! What a great forum!!!
  • Interesting that you shared your son's name is HUDSON. You are not alone on this forum, another forum poster from Texas has a son named HUDSON too!

Best to you as you make your way from restorable to restored Hudson automobile.

My son will be happy to hear that one, he has always kind of disliked sometimes, but it fits him perfectly! He has had a lot of nick names with this one.

    Hudcap

    Hud the dud

    Hudly

    Hud the stud

The list goes on, too funny!
