I think he's saying that this gentleman bought the car at that auction and is selling it now. It looks like a really nice car to me, couldn't build it for 25. I don't think.

I read it as he traded a vehicle to the person who bought it at the auction, in the hopes of selling the Hudson.

@25k there is no way you could do the clip, and body mods, let alone the paint.

That being said, unless the builder or car history warrants it - given the seemingly honest decription by the seller and the current market I'd say the car is overpriced about 5-8k

I only say that because unless your goal was to drive "as is" a paintjob alone is going to cost 5-10k to recreate that look. Then add an interior freshen for another 2-3k really pushes the totals beyond what the car is worth - even a custom Hudson!

Of course this is just MHO

Lots more interest these days in driving cars "as is", with a little road rash, so long as they're presentable. Almost like announcing to the world that its a driver, not a trailer queen. Car has some provenance, if it really is a Dick Dean chop. And you gotta admit, if you get off on having your Hudson mistaken for a Merc, this is your car! Price would have been right on last year, but don't know how much the present economic hand-wringing is going to affect the hot rod market. More power to him, if he can turn a buck on a smart trade.

Do yourself a favor and read up on the history of a Hudson Hornet. You will never want a Merc again....

Your right, he posted how he got the car while I was still typing what I wrote. Oops.:) No matter, I still think it looks like a good buy. IMHO. But, I guess you can always buy one cheaper than you can build one.:)

I could see myself behind the wheel of that one. I would be tempted to take the BBC out though and put in a fresh 308 twin H on that tranny.

That chop-top Hudson is now in Jonesboro, Arkansas, I saw it at a tire shop last week, wanted to meet the new owner but he wasn't around and I did Not have time to wait around until he returned.
