37 Terraplane PU questions

I'm assuming this to be a 117" wheel base--

I am having springs made up and in need of some info --

I am looking in the Mechanical procedure manual (1937) and trying to figure out a couple of things about the 37 Terraplane PU.

In 37 there were only 3 models, the Terraplane, Hudson six and Hudson eight ?

I see a Terraplane Special and Terraplane De Luxe offered in 1935 with tire side mount -- I don't see that for 1937

This PU has side mount spare.

The reason I am asking, is that I see different front spring lengths for rear tire mount (31") vs side mount (32.5) for 1935

This 1937 truck has the side mount, but I see no reference to that in the parts book for the 37 model year.

The front spring # is the same for 70 series, PU-- doesn't show one number for left and another for right (to compensate for the side mount spare I presume)

Can anyone enlighten me so I get the right springs made up?

Thanks!

Yes, three basic models, but there were two "commercial" levels (model 70 -- 117" wheelbase & 78 -- 124" wheelbase), two "Terraplanes" (model 71 & 72), one model of Hudson six (73) and four models of Hudson eight (74, 75, 76, 77)

The commercial cars (of which the pickup is one) either had sidemounts standard, or had them optionally -- not sure which. But it was not unusual.

I have some sheets from a spring manufacturer's book. 1937 Terr. commercial for both models 70 & 78 are all the same, no mention of sidemount so maybe they all had the sidemounts after all. FRONTS: Sping width 1-3/4", number of leaves 10, Short End length 15-11/16", Long End length 16-13/16", free arch 2-3/4", S.E. bushings 7/8". REARS depend upon your serial number as they changed, apparently, during production. If you have the original ones you might just want to check these numbers against them, to verify.

    Jon,

    A big thank you!!

I'll send this info to the spring company. Now I need to chase the rear spring info down. Do you have the different offerings ? I would think that the wheel base (117 vs 124) would have different rates.

    :)

I have the truck in pieces. One of the original front springs (marked right side) has a much higher arc than the other one - That would make sense to compensate for the extra weight of the spare. But in this picture, it looks like the passenger is actually sagging down, which you would think, would make the spring have a lower arc when taken off the truck. ?? But again, the parts book list the same part # for both sides for 1937.

Send me your e-mail address - maybe I can scan and send them to you. It cost me 100.00 to get them.
