Control Valve Removal
Hi All I made the mistake of grabbing the tv lever and must have damaged
something in the valve body. I have a motor repair manuel but does not say what to watch for when taking the control valve body off. 54 Hornet H54
Hydramatic.trans. Take off tv lever, remove pin, take off shifter lever, remove
bolts and side cover. There is 4 bolts holding control valve body on trans
have to be kept in proper place. THEN WHAT There is pipes hooked to control valve. I am verry upset and sad because i have given up on our Huudson because i seem to be wrecking everything lately. I am down to a 4 day workweek and cant buy the rubber seal kit and window bearings i need to put side windows back in. Ray

Try be patient and dont give up on it. Sometimes everything goes wrong it seems and we back slide a little. Best to step away then come back to it later.
Regarding the valve body I am not an expert by no means but I removed mine last summer because the Shift 'Detent' was worn out from abuse at some point in its life'. I am not sure why you are removing yours. Those tubes (Pipes) just slide out from the Case when remove valve body. A watch out is to look where a shaft(s) go thru the valve body front to rear, and make sure its put back the same diection. (If I recall one the shaft could slide out of position). If you get stuck I could send you a picture from the Hydro Manual I bought to do my Tranny. I used Form A Gasket to install the cover. Again , I am not a Hydro expert though but did this repair.0 -
Thanks Old Racer. I have been stepping back for the last year. Why i am taking it apart is because when i grabbed the tv lever i must have striped
the tv lever shaft splines inside. Ray0 -
Old Racer please send me a picture thanks Ray0

I read keep the bolts in same spot. I recall I had the TP Rod stripped too from removal at the Yard. I pulled it apart and Tacked it. Attached is picture. If Questions email. The Rod at Top Right is critical to be in position.Several pictures but if not tearing apart this is general view. Maybe If needed I could fax you a page with more Info. Scaning is hard to read.0

Duncan, like when we last talked about this: 1/ take a picture digital if possible of tube locations,2/ remove small tube from front of valvebody, 3/remove the 4 small bolts ,all the same size 3/8 or 7/16 HEAD SIZE, 4/ gently pull valve body towards front of car, some of the small tubes that go from body to gov support may come out, they need to stay in gov support. Next out to bench with v/body. If you have a mig welder you may not have to disassemble to fix. The small pin that goes thru stripped shaft should be straight up and down, in other words vertical when its in that position , the end of the lever should just be touching the end of the throttle valve. Weld around area where its swedged together carefully, if you get too much you may need to grind a bit of weld off. Always keep any dirt or grinding debris out of body-cover up!! Then reassemble. GOOD LUCK Lou Cote :cool:0
