Browsed thru part of the Sun. paper this a.m. & a book review caught my eye as on the cover of it appears to be a '35 Hudson sd. complete with fender skirts. Of course the book cover pic is only about 1" across but it would appear to be some sort of a period photo (the book is set in 1936 according to the review, which wasn't too great).

The title of the book is "The Reserve" & the author Russell Banks (it says he's an "acclaimed author") but I've never heard of him so "what do chickens know" [old Hoosier expression, LOL]. I only read history books anyway & this is fiction.

    The Reserve looks backward, this time to the 1930s. The reserve of the title is an Adirondack preserve, a membership-only sanctuary where the very rich partake of woodland leisure, hunting, fishing, dining, drinking, utterly remote from the anxiety and want that most Americans experienced in 1936



    Sounds forgettable to me.



    Russell Banks is a member of the International Parliament of Writers and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters. His work has been translated into twenty languages and has received numerous international prizes and awards. He likes to write fiction books under the label of non-fiction books, such as Dreaming up America.



    Also sounds forgettable.



    I recently found a whole floor of the Memphis library stuffed with history reading. Just about anything one could ask for.
