This one again. Seems like when anyone gets this car they want to get rid of it right away. ...I wonder why, it sure looks nice.0

Hudson308 wrote:Looks like Russ simply put it up for sale on eBay with a third party when he didn't get the offer he wanted by posting it here (see the "For Sale - 51 Hudson Lead Sled" thread). I told him he needed the national exposure on eBay to get what he wanted for it... especially this car, customized as it is, with its' Kustom Kulture provenance. I didn't suggest he list it as a Mercury, though. Yet IMHO advertising it as a Merc is likely an effective (if also a wee bit deceptive) way to open up the market to all those lead sled fans who would otherwise be ignorant of the Hudsons' inherent advantages over yet another custom Merc. Bidding is up to $20k as of this writing (pecking?). Wouldn't be surprised to see it go over 25.
Oh I get it now. I hope he gets what he wants for it, it look like a great car.:)0 -
More than "a wee bit" deceptive- He lists it as a '51 Merc, period, and doesn't reveal the "surprise" until the bottom of the description. He has legal disclaimers at the bottom, but no disclaimer of deception over the make.0

Havent been here in a while but wa surprised to see all the comments on the Hudson Ebay Ad. You are correct when you say everyone thinks it is a mercury...most people I have came across the last 2 weeks doent even know what a Hudson looks like. Now, as far as the comments
Deceptive? Well if it fooled you then I guess you could say that...I consider it good "marketing" strategy.
Ebay does not have a 'Hudson' category so listing it in the correct category is impossible. Listing it in the 'make/model = other/other category doesnt give you any exposure and they simply dont get the views...
As a marketing person it is a well known fact that every 'seller' wants the buyer to decide they 'want it' before they even know the price...this is no different...ebayers are falling in love with the car even before they know its a Hudson.
All my emails and questions have been very positive from ebayers.
" Ive never heard of a Hudson...I like it better than the Mercs "
" Wow...I could never afford the 50-60K for Mercs...but I can afford this! "
" Finally, a Lead Sled for the regular guy..we're not all rich guys "
" Sweet Car Man....Wish I had sold my boat earlier so I had the cash "
If I had another 15K to add to this hudson I would be keeping it and driving it for a while...I need cash right now......Thats life!0 -
Hudson stepdown lead sleds have been embarassing the Merc boys for years. Hudsons don't look like chopped Mercs, but chopped Mercs look like Hudsons.
