My 28 Essex coupe

New to the forum. I live in Oklahoma and like junk. Here's my newest addition, a 28 Essex coupe. I need a deck lid if anybody wants to sell one. It's getting 4 link, suicide front, 454, not sure on stick or auto yet, fat keystones in the back and crusty cragers up front. Heres some pics:

This is how I bought it in Kansas weekend b/f last

I'll post pics as I make progress. Any idea how many coupes were built in 28?? Thanks

    Welcome!

The body looks amazingly intact from the pictures - how's it up close?
  • The right rear 1/4 was tied in a knot, roof has was banged up pretty good. That's all fixed now, gonna need patch panels all the way around the bottom 6 inches.

Welcome to the portal of mortal junk fans!!! You scored big time there, looks like... even has one of the cowl lights!!! I hope you grabbed the roadster in the field behind it for a stablemate, mate. :D

It was gone by the time I got there, I wanted a coupe anyway. Was looking for a tall t, but i think this is wayyyy cooler. Love the suicide doors and piano hinges.

A deck lid from a '29 Essex will fit but you will need to find the correct deck handle. If you get lucky with the handle, please remember me as I need one for my second 28 E Coupe.Let me know if you need detail photos - I've got 2 restored 28 E Coupe on the road!!

Here's a front & back of a bare deck lid.

The last one I saw on eBay went for close to $500 - 'n that's way more than my complete car cost

Can I trouble ya' for the dimensions of that lid? Even if I don't find a Hudson panel, I could measure what I might find anyway. ;)

Across 35.5 inches x 30 inch vertical (round the curve). This for a '28 or 29 Essex Coupe . A Hudson Coupe may be different!!
  • I am in need of both doors for my '29 Coupe should anyone have two laying around. Or front doors from a 4 door will work. Also need a windshield frame. Great find on your body. NICE. Perley

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the body you have is a 1927 Essex coupe, and the lid, and indeed all other body parts, are different from '28.

    Geoff.
  • This what I am up to, with my 29 Essex Coupe, its' going to be a cruiser, Buick 3.8 V6 automatic, 51 John Deere tractor rad, Camaro driveshaft, Toyota six bolt Mags on original drums, long term project. It runs and it was at the International Meet in Pontiac. Everything else is original, frame and all. Have fun with your project.

    Pete

P.S. Still a long way to go
  • Sweet!,

I love the body style, That is going to be one sweet ride when its done ,good luck with the decklid search, I'll keep my eyes open while I trying to rustle up parts.
