Has anyone in the St louis area ever heard of this dealer-ship?

Burgdorf Motor Co.

2727 So. Jefferson Ave.

St. Louis MO.

I recently purchased a 1952 Hudson brochure at a swamp meet that had that stamped on it.

  • Dick Burgdorf is an H.E.T. member and was the son of the founder of Burgdorf motors.. I think they were even AMC dealers for a while. If I'm not mistaken he lives in Missouri still.

I have a tie I bought from Dick approx. 40 years ago at the time of a National Meet there, '69? He had some of us over to his house to see some of his "stuff" - he had several of these still new ties that had never been given out to salesmen & I as I recall he accepted my munificent offer of $5 for it! I wear it only to National Meets banquets (you can see it at Pontiac, LOL) - dark blue with red Hudson logo stitched into it.

So yep, Burgdorf Motors was alive & kicking 50 - 60 years ago.

I also have a cap given out by the L. A. Zone with a Jet on one side, Hornet on the other.

It so happens I was looking through some photo's my dad gave me tonight. I was looking at one that has Jack Miller,Pete Booz, and Carl Weber. Pete was wearing this tie he is speaking of. This photo album is one that Laurel Hanson had, that was given to my parents last month after Iris Hanson passed. There are several pix of cars from California in the late 60's.where Laurel would go to Hudson meets. I am bringing it with me to Pontiac along with some other 40 year+ albums of Hudson meets.

Laurel was really a great guy, a REAL Hudson advocate!

He arrived in L. A. (actually lived in Simi Valley) as a "bird colonel" in the AF & was finishing out his career at a gov't. office building in Westwood Village, a long drive from Simi Valley so, as I recall, bought a Jet as a "daily driver".

He found his last true Hudson "love" when we located a '46-7 C8 conv. which he bought & restored. He took it back to the little farm he'd bought near Peru, Ind. when he retired & I believe kept it until his death.

I was Treasurer during most if not all of his years he was President of HET so we worked together a lot, knew each other well.

He & Iris were a wonderful couple - had a lot of beers in their kitchen while "kicking tires".
  • My World Wide Dealers catolog shows a Burgdorf Motor Co. 2727 S. Jefferson Ave, St. Louis, Mo. That is all that is listed under Mo. Richs.

Pete, Laurel's '46 is the one on my website. We made sure that he and Iris were always included in as many Hudson functions that they felt up to attending. They were good people. Iris knew the car needed to be re-restored and sold the car to my parents several years ago. We restored the car back to the original color-Nepal Ivory-,fuel system, brakes, clutch, front end, tires, top and some minor engine work . We later did a complete engine rebuild-2007. This car will be in our family for a long, long time.

Sure glad it's got a good home!

I've been trying to remember where or how we found that car but can't.

I do remember the screwy circumstances about getting an even more rare '42 C8 conv. that we "found" in the L. A. area as I eventually got it (now belongs to a Mich. HET member I believe).

I may send an e-mail to Elliott as he may remember where we found Laurel's conv.

I thought this '46 came out of Watts?. It is a wonder that it didn't get burnt up. which would have been a shame. The one that I would like to find that Laurel had is the '37 panel truck he had??. any idea where it went?.

I didn't know he, or anyone, ever had a panel truck of any year in L. A.

I think you've got the X-161 in mind as that was unearthed by Elliot in Watts.

I've sent an e-mail to Elliot in re Laurel's conv.
