anyone know this car? what about the price is this a good deal?

Comments

  • Looks like a good deal to me. Bit of cleaning and this looks like nice car. You would need to inspect it in person to make sure frame is solid but price is ok.
  • I think it is a good deal aswell. Correct looking interior. Most everything looks to be done. Can't restore it for the starting price. The engine and firewall certainly looks better than most of the 40K Coupes I've been looking at!

if jon battle see,s this can you weigh in on what you know about the car. thanks
  • I'm not going to bug the owner with this question because I'm not ready to buy at the moment, but what's up with the front floors? If you look in the picture of the dash, the floor looks like it has some pretty severe surface rust. Am I seeing that right? The ad says "new carpet." I wonder if that picture is old, and if so whether the floor was cleaned up prior to carpet install.

Looks like the original jute underlayment.
  • It seems the picture of the front seat and dash which shows the uncarpeted surface rust floor was taken when all the other shots were made. It made me wonder, why would someone leave this one area bare and unfinished when going to all the trouble to make everything else look so pristine? Maybe this was the last thing they had to do when they ran out of money!
  • Says in ad he installed new carpet. I agree that is not the bare rusted floor but the jute underlay.
  • Not a Nay Sayer....

I downloaded the picture of the floor and when I increase the size, I do not see jute underlayment. The removable center section has the glue down tarpaper underlayment, but the rest of the floor appears to be bare. Better pictures or physical inspection would be needed.

Just talked to Joel. There was once a small rust hole in the driver's side floor but it was repaired and then new carpet with jute backing was put on. The rest of the body is absolutely solid. Has all new brakes, u-joints, transmission shifts good (Hydramatic). He added a bunch of pictures today (Thursday). Paint job is maybe 5 years old.

Thanks for clearing it up. It's a nice car, I wish I had the scratch right now.

I also communicated with Joel and he stated that if he can get the car on a lift, pictures of the underside will be taken and posted to the Internet. If I understand correctly, the car was obtained from second owner in Tenn.

    :)
  • Howdy Timothy,

I thought you were looking for a nice driver right now, it doesn't look as though you could get a better car for the money than that 54, it's a good clean car. You should really consider the car I told you about earlier because you might pick it up for 8K and have the interior done when you're better suited financially.

    Think about it
the value of nice cold vintage air in your car?

26 hours left still no bids. wonder why?
  • I talked to the guy. Floors are good he put up pics with shots of the frame and the new carpet. This is a good deal for the price in my opinion. But as with all cars you are thinking of buying go see it in person. But for the price it is now you can't go wrong.

Joel's a good Hudson man. This car is a great deal for the price. Anyone out there in the market for a stepdown certainly won't go wrong. My guess about the lack of bids is the poor economic market we are suffering through. Heck, a lot of folks are hoping the banks don't foreclose on their house, which is more of a concern right now than another toy to put money into. Also, could be some snipers waiting till the end of the auction.
