Clutch Assembly Removal

OK...I got the transmission and bell housing out. Bell housing is now separated from transmission and transmission is draining.

Next step is to remove the clutch assembly from the engine. I am looking at ALL the bolts on the back and at Plate 24 in the Master Parts Catalog.

Which ones am I supposed to loosen a little to remove the whole assembly? J1-8 & 9 or J1-17 & 19?

There are 16 X 1/2" headed bolts around the outer edge of the pressure plate, loosen these off, I usually remove every second bolt, then, leaving just two , opposite each other ,and finally remove those two, put a pan underneath to catch any oil that is left in the unit, you make have to break the seal between the pressure plate and the flywheel.

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE REMOVE THE Three 3/4" nuts on the top of the pressure plate, unless you have it under a press.

After removal if repairs are necessary, get Dr Doug to recondition the unit for you.
  • Thank you. I'll have it off tomorrow after church since there is no more football to watch.

Dr. Doug is getting the unit. It is slipping so bad I have no drive in the drive train.
