Fiber quarter panel skirt bracket spacers
Hello All,
When I disassembled my '51, There were remnants of two rectangular fiber like spacers that went between the quarter panel and the brackets for the skirts. Does anyone have a good one laying around that they can measure the thickness of these? Mine are too far gone to reuse and was thinking of making new ones out of plastic or another suitable material. Thanks in advance for any information.

Dave,
You beat me to this post. Mine crumbled into small pieces when I took my quarter panels off. I am now putting it all back together. I was also wondering what people used to replace it. Can someone post a picture?

I do not have one of the spacers but I do know how you can get a good estimate of the thickness. Take your fender skirts and measure the thickness of the lip which when installed slips between the outer fender and the frame. If you go to the local Lowes or Home Depot they sell siding and fencing which is made from composite. A small piece of that material will be sufficent to make the spacers and they will not rot. Usually they have scraps of material that are cut to meet the customer's project needs which are sold cheaply.

Yeah, that's a good idea. I just have to remember to reinstall the rubber "door edge guard" (for lack of a better term) on the top of the skirt flange to get a close measurement. Thanks for the idea. Still would be good to have a picture if anyone has them out of the car.0 -

Now I am thoroughly confused. I am finishing assembly on my 53 Super Wasp that was partially disassembled when i got it. I thought the brackets below went inside the wheel well, but now I find out they go between the quarter panel and frame and the fiber board just fills the space between them. I was worried they were awfully close to the tire sidewall. Can someone post a picture of how the brackets below are mounted? I could not find a picture in the body assembly manual.

Rich... I will take picture of my car with skirts mounted, not mounted and how the brackets are installed. Have patience... will take me a few days to get to car and complete the task.0 -

Right on Bill! I just got home and measured the thickness of the top edge of the skirt w/ the rubber guard on it and it is .240"0 -

Thanks for the info Bill. I also have been wondering what to use. Had simalar idea's, just never got around to trying them out.
