reproducing visor-mounted mirrors

I've just won an Ebay auction for an original Hudson accessory visor-mounted mirror circa 1937 (give or take), which has the etched "blanks" on the front for writing oil change mileage, etc. My guess is that these are correct for more than one year, and therefore the it might be possible to reproduce a number of these, thus keeping the per-unit cost down.

Does anyone know of a reputable mirror company I might contact in order to get a price on having these re-made? I think the size is approximately 4" x 6", with a large radius at each corner, and possible a bevel on the glass (haven't seen one up close). And of course there is silvering on the back and sandblasting or etching on the face. The actual design can be (I feel sure) taken off my mirror photographically or possibly via a digitizing scanner.

Maybe nothing will come of this, but I want to check it out. If I could get these made "at cost" then maybe a bunch of you '30's Hudson owners can get a shot at truly rare "period" Hudson option, at a reasonable price.

  • John, can you post a picture of the mirror here. I can't imagine where such a mirror could go on my 38.

    Thanks,

    Allan
  • The one shown is currently on eBay... note the spots on the mirror to pencil in the the oil change timing... the white blocks.

  • I know that someone from the Studebaker Club is reproducing for Stude's. You might want to find out who...just post something on the AACA Stude board or write to someone from the club .....contacts on their website.

    Here ya go, Allan!

There are metal clips on the back of the mirror which grasp the inside visor (on the passenger side). I realize it may be difficult to reproduce the metal mirror clips, but...one thing at a time!
  • I have one of these except it says "Ford" on it. It was on my 48 Hudson when I bought it.... perfect shape.
