Needed: Carb spacer for WDO

I'm in the middle of rebuilding the carb for my '49 C8 and it seems that I am missing a spacer plate that goes between the body of the carb and the lower steel part that has the butterflies. Reportedly, this spacer was originally made of bakelite. My rebuild kit has two .033" gaskets to go there, but the old gasket was about .120" thick, so I need to make up about .054". Does anyone have an extra spacer to sell, or a .12" thick gasket for a WDO?

    I'm not aware of any special spacer,just a gasket and 3 round ring gaskets. They are also usually warped badly in this area and allow vacuum leaks almost undetectable. Are you talking about the base of the carb to the diecast body? but they did have a tin heat deflector in between the mounting gaskets?. Is that there?. Also,check your heat riser,make sure it is OPEN and stays open. The carb is mounted on the exhaust manifold of the *8's and recieves plenty of heat!! Cotter key in shaft is parellel with the exhaust manifold is open.

    I believe what he is talking about is the thick gasket shown on the below pictures that goes between the float bowl assembly and the throttle valve assembly.

  • Yes, the thick gasket is what I need. The carb kit just had two thin gaskets, not thick enough.
  • Wow! I had no idea this was a unique problem. This post has had 127 viewings and only one response of value. Not even goofy responses like my friend's idea to put J-B weld between the gaskets.

    I guess that I will start cutting gaskets, stack then up, and hope they don't blow out.

    You need to check your gasket/Overhaul kit. I looked at one yesterday and it has a thick gasket in it for the base to carb.body. Again,you need a shop manual!

  • Dear Clutch Guy:

    I have several manuals, including an Offical Carter Manual and this issue is not covered. If I post a question, it means I have exhuasted other means to find information. You have to admit, the old manuals aren't worth beans sometimes on service methods.
