condenser problem?
I read the threads the other day about the carb. then condenser problems. I just got back from a drive in my 47 Commodore 6 and once again I'm having the same problem. The car runs great driving down the road, but idles rough or instantly dies. It always starts back up but you have to keep it revved up. It only does this sometimes. Sunday I drove all over and it ran and idled like brand new. It is an on again off again thing. I installed an electric fuel pump and though that it put out too much pressure, but I can unplug it and it continues to run rough. If it were flooding, that would stop the fuel flow and correct the problem, wouldn't it? When I let off the gas I can hear "popping" sounds in the intake. Occasionally after I drive say 30 miles and stop and kill the car(doesn't die on it's own) when I get back in it won't start. Don't know if it's related. Once again I don't believe it's flooded because I immediately unhook the pump, hold pedal to floor and try too start. Usually someone must pull start me. Very annoying. I can't fix it because I can't figure it out. I think it's fixed itself, then bam, it does it again all of a sudden when I'm in town with 100 stoplights. Any suggestions?

I had a crosley do the same thing and it was the gas tank.

There was rust flakes in the tank, I took it out and cleaned it but know I didn't get it all. I have one of those inline filters but those are questionable. I had one on a 73 Chevy truck, I put on when I installed a new carb, 6 inches from the carb. A few months later the carb was full of gunk, probably becauce cheap as I as that was after I drained the Hudson tank, attempted to strain the gas and then put it in the truck. Gas was $4.00 a gallon almost then. I took a glass bowl filter off a 49 International, made a bracket and hooked it up inline. Since then I've had no problems. I don't have much trust in inline filters anymore. I'm sure it's the tank. When I fill it up it probably stirs those particles up. That explains the on again off again nature of the problem. Thanks.0
