Help needed on 54 paint

I'm having my 54 hornet repainted, it was originally Roman Bronze but was changed inside and out to a burgandy metallic long ago. Could this be an attempt to duplicate Royal red? I want to paint it a deep maroon non-metallic. Would like to use a hudson color but doesn't have to be a '54 color. Anybody have pix of your favorite maroon stepdown? Any suggestions appreciated.

As far as maroons go, Dave Sollon's former '51 Hornet 'vert had a real pretty shade on it. Bill A. is currently (I think) working on a maroon coupe. Ask either of those guys for pics or just do a search here on the forum.
  • On my DUPONT paint chart issued Oct.,20 1953 for the 1954 year Duco 1702-H Royal Red is a dark red. A update on April 27 1954 adds Lipstick 1936-H, which I believe was used on some of the earlier 50,51,52 and 53's. Lou Cote

"Royal Red" is a dark red that was discontinued when "Lipstick", a bright red, was introduced in spring of '54. "Royal Red" is very similar to "Toro Red" which is a earlier stepdown color.

My 51 was painted 90's GM truck dark carmine.

I can't remember a 54 in Royal Red but I think its redder than the maroons on the earlier stepdowns, true? Dave is the Carmine a metallic color? The picture probably isn't accurate but it looks like a brighter shade than I'm looking for. Any other pix out there? Thanks

Google " '51 Hudson Hornet Convertible" and there's plenty more pics of Dave's 'vert that pops up.

Thanks, Dave! Just wanted to see another pic . . . haven't seen that one, before.

That isn't metalic, but they did have a dark carmine metalic used on GM cars. Look at GM Paint chips from early 90's
  • This 54 was posted here before I like the red on this car.

A friend has a 51 Ford with a nice dark maroon on it. Anybody familiar with this color and is there a hudson color that is close to it?
