1942 indiana license plate wanted...
guys,
I am looking for a 1942 Indiana license plate for my 42 Hudson.
Indiana started a YOM (year of mfg) plate program last year.
Instead of going the antique car plate route I would like to use the 42
Indiana plate but this has been a hard one to find.
if anyone out there has one they wish to sell please contact me
thru this post.
thanks,
PaceRacer50

If you find one don't repaint it or they won't accept it. They have to be original, and readable, plus you have to keep your antique tag in your car at all times, and it is a least another $50.00! I personally don't think it is worth it, but if you want, go for it!! I just thought I would put in my 2 cents worth.

Paceracer50. I have it on very good authority that Indiana tags came in PAIRS for the 1942 model year for private passenger cars. FYI. Good luck getting them. They are available just keep looking.0

That set on ebay for 30 bucks looks like a good deal.0

And how often do you think '42 plates come up? Probably the least-issued plates since WWI.0 -
I will buy them then sell them to Paceracer for $1100 to cover my expenses.0

And Paceracer, being the bright lad that he is, will not quibble about your price, and will gladly send you a cashier's check for $2,000 - just cash the check, pocket your $1100, and send me the difference (I'm acting as his agent in this transaction- its always wise to get a sophisticated third party involved in these complex transactions).0

Exactly Mike and we haven't even begun to negotiate the transfer fees and shipping and Handling. As you know I ship all of my goods out of Timbuktu so we need to cover shipping there and back. Plus of course your healthy transaction and implementation fee. When all is said and done our plates will cost more than the car.0

With all the fees we are racking up here PaceRacer better buy soon before he needs a mortgage to cover our costs. Hey we are just trying to help a fella out.0

He might just want to consider moving to Washington- we apparently have the most reasonable YOM plate program alive. Need one plate- can be restored if you want, so long as its the right colors; You register the plate for life, one time fee of 25 bucks, no other annual fees or annual registration, and best of all, can be used for "incidental pleasure driving", not just for shows and runs. The downside: the correct plate for a '48 car is actually a '47 plate (they did a window sticker in '48)- so smart alecks at shows frequently question why I think my stepdown is a '47.
As to or thread above, a couple observations- no need to worry about shipping, because there was never any intention of actually sending him a plate anyhow, and I won't be charging any fees, because I'm going to just abscond with all the money anyhow, and it would be cheesy to charge fees on top of that. Only the Nigerian princes would be that crass.0 -
Mike you are right best to deliver nothing and charge as much as possible for it then no one can complain you weren't thorough.
And heck if we really need plates my buddy Bernie can make them for us. He has a lot of time on his hands nowadays and access to the equipment.:D0
