'35 Hudson - window replacement

I am wondering what the best procedure would be to replace the two rear quarter windows on my 1935 Hudson 6 sedan.



My dad and I were able to remove the windows from the doors a few years ago by removing the inner door panels and getting new auto glass cut and put back in.



The trick with these two rear quarter windows is there is no door panel to remove, and is surrounded by the mohair upholstery. It appears that upholstery would simply have to be removed; and then trying to figure out how the windows are mounted in order to replace them.



I did find an auto glass company who said they can probably do it, but could not guarantee not damaging the mohair due to it's age. Any suggestions on if I should try the removal; or just take my chances with the auto glass company?



The windows are original and over the years, if you are familiar, air tends to get between the glass and some type of transparent insert used during the day, which caused yellowing and cracking of the window. The cracking has proceeded up the window over the years and just simply needs to be replaced.

I"d say "do it yourself". No one has as much interest in seeing this done correctly, as you do. If the company flubs it, you have no recourse. But, you're at the mercy of whomever they assign to the job (like the 17-year-old boss' no-account nephew).



If you have even a smidgen of ability (and anyone with a '35 Hudson had better have!) you can tackle this. If you can find a friend who has done this sort of thing, invite him over some Saturday and offer him dinner. Just take it slowly and carefully. And, if you encounter a mystery, just pause, and come back here and ask us!

JON hit it on the head, go at it slow and remove every little tack before you try to move the upholstery, that stuff is tougher than you might think but you can destroy it by forceing things. If it's like my 37 { has roll back 1/4 windows } it will have a wood frame around it, might want to pattern it before removeing as rot/decay likely more problem there than the mohair. Also want to check on wether it has that rain drip catcher dowingy that chanels the water to where it will run out the drain hole at the front of the wheel well ---- If it does have roll backs you gotta have this !! Bud
