Wiper caution

I installed a product from "it's a snap" to replace the entire vacuum wiper system. modified original towers to be driven by this system. This system is the exact same idea that has been used on the Austin mini for decades.

Product is very flimsy, and may work OK in a straight line but is not built heavy enough to withstand the motor torque to go around corners. The sections that drive the wipers are made from light guage sheet and they spread very easy under load.

I solved that problem using some heavier backing plates, Added some bracketry to eliminate tubing movement also so I thought I was good to go. Used wipers for 20 minutes cable broke so I guess it was "It's a snap"

broke where it attaches to a pressed on tube at the drive end.

Thought product was inferior but was willing to try again. Called factory to buy cable expecting the usual "it must be how you installed it or somehow it had to be my fault" Well I did not even get that. I was advised they don't have any in stock and that I should weld it. In one word JUNK

I bought a cable operated system from Specialty Power Windows about 6 years ago and its still going strong. I had to route it up through the windshield post in a 29 Essex coupe It has a pretty good bend in it. A lot sharper than they recommended plus the aluminum tube got kinked so I replaced it with copper. So far the only problem I've had is finding short enough blades. I usually just have to cut them down.

The system was a little expensive. but worth it.
