Ormond Beach Florida AACA Followup
Well the 52nd annual Birthplace of Speed AACA Meet is in the History books. Hudson was the featured make. A great honor indeed.. Only three Hudsons were present. Our green 49, Pam and Sam Gill's green 51 Hornet Coupe and Jim Longs black 47 Commodore 8 Convertible. The Friday night gas light Parade was a hit. We were the only Hudson in the parade. Lots of nice comments from the crowd. Our car looks better in the dark....LOL..I don't think I have ever seen so many spectators at a cold (40's) night parade. The streets were lined for miles! The hotels were full of tourist and the Hot Rod crowd from the Daytona Speedway Turkey Run. That is the largest East Coast combination show and swap meet. So lots of car people in town. This parade was vehicles only, No marching bands or horses.. so it moved at a decent pace.. Shouldn't have been any overheated cars. One 40 Ford Conv did have a catastrophic electrical failure and dropped out. A new restoration that just hadn't had time to be sorted out yet. Randy Hendrix was present with his son and a 49 Jeepster. His 49 Convert that was a 2009 Albright Award contestant is still in a garage in Maine. It sure would have been a hit.
I had some posters in the rear widows explaining the 100 years of Hudson that our Chapter had printed. I also places some HET applications on the windshield. One is missing ,so maybe HET will pick up a new member. I wanted to stay be the car and talk to people, but that was very difficult since they placed the car separate from the others and directly in front of the PA system speakers. I couldn't hear what I was saying much less what the others were saying..The weather was clear and cool. A great day for Hudson..

You are right.. He and a LOT of others didn't attend. The Gill's were planning on bringing "Miss Millie" the Hudson Firetruck, but she overheated in a Palatka Parade the night before and they didn't have time to check it out. That fire truck was at the National.0 -
Dave:
Sounds like you had fun and were the toast of the parade. Thanks for showing your Hudson. I'll try to make it someday. Bob0 -
Hi Bob, Toast of the parade? Probably not..with all those gorgeous Classics.? But yes, We did have fun. The message here is to show your Hudson! You might be surprised how well you may be accepted by the "other"clubs and the spectators. like someone wiser than me said."If all you do is park your antique car in the garage and look at it. You may as well hang a picture in there. It would be cheaper."0
