Guys using tachometers.

We're running orginal Sun Tachs, but that requires original Sun Tach Transmitters for 6 volt, 6 cylinders (which is a hit n' miss thing).
To buy a new tach, Westach.

The make 6 volt tachs that run on postive or negative ground. Nice vintage look to them also. Maximum off-the-shelf rpm is 5000.

Mark, thanks very much for the pic and info. I'll call them tomorrow. Richie.0

Hey HUDSONATOR,
which one of the two different tachometers do you think we need? they list a 2IMP/REV and a 4IMP/REV. I have never seen this type of diescription listed for tachs.
The 42 is staying 6 volts and the 5000 rpm is more than enough for the 212 thats going in her. You think these would work with the pertonixs conversions?
On a different note I cracked the case on the TH350 in the Pacemaker saturday. It started slipping when making the shift from 2nd to 3rd. I think that it tore out the one-way clutch used for the high gear clutch pack. time for a new TH350 and a race built one at that. I doubt it will be ready for the May 24th Studebaker Orphan car drag race at Brown County dragway this year.
I'm still out of work and do not have the extra fundage right now to fix it.

Ralph,
I haven't run across the different pulse counts before either. I would think the 2 impulse to be steadier than the 4. The main reason I suppose is if the engine sees rapid changes in rpm in broad sweeps. The wider the rpm changes, the quicker the impulse needed. The broad impulse would seem to be good for steadier engines: like stationary power units, tractors, etc.
I'm pretty sure the Westach would work with a pertronix unit. My reasoning is because our antiquated Sun Tach transmitters will work with a Pertronix, if the transmitter is in excellent shape. All a Pertronix does is break the circuit, which is what the tach is sensing.
What are we going to do with these transmission chewing Hudsons? My economy is still on a low note as well. Low enough that I likely wouldn't make it to Bean Blossom even if you were running. We're in a "test n' tune", low dollar mode until we can break out of our rusty cage.

This is my dash mounted vintage Stewart Warner, 6 cyl., 12 volt. I revised all electronics to 12 volts. The tach is self contained. The distributor has been converted to a Pertronix electronic setup.0

Mark, I just spoke with Westach and ordered a #2CT53-6v with 3imp/rev which is for a 6cyl engine. The woman I spoke with said that the #2CT52-6v that has 2imp/rev is for a 4 cyl. and the #2CT54-6v that has 4imp/rev is for an 8 cyl. She said it takes about 4 to 6 weeks to get it.
Nice looking dash Dougson, and thanks for posting the pic. Richie.0 -

Well, I guess that solves the question about the impulses. I wondered why they were the same price, has nothing to do with quality - just the number of cylinders.
Thanks Ritchie.0 -
Here's the one I picked up at a local swap meet for my 308 powered 49 C8.
Haven't installed it yet and hope it plays well with the Crane ignition.0
