Can someome tell me if 20 gals is the correct gas tank capacity for a 53 Hornet. I found specs for 48 and 49 and 54. The 54 was listed as 15 gal cap. and the 48 and 49 were listed as 20 gals. Thanks, Richie.

Probably changed in '52 when they put the spare vertically on the right side instead of flat on the floor. That required a narrower tank to accommodate the spare wheel well.

Thanks Park. I'm just trying to figure out the range on a full tank. Richie

My 52 holds 20 gallons. Put in 17 gallons the other day.

All styep-down tanks were 20 gal. The 15 gal tank was for the Jets

Thanks GrimGreaser and Jerry I appreciate your help. Richie
  • One exception to this: racing tanks were 25 gallons. All stepdown gas tanks will interchange except for the 1954 model year. (surprised?) The neck is narrower and the cap is different.
  • Yes -all stepdown tanks are the same exept 54 has different neck. I have sold the 48-53 tant to a 54 owner and he mearly moved the neck,

Hudzilla, thanks, I didn't know that but 5 more gals would be good. Couldn't afford to fill it very often though at $4/gal. Richie
Roger, I just checked the 53 Hornet and the 50 Pacemaker tanks and they are the same. I'll be sending you another list this coming week. Thanks, Richie.
  • Allways glad to help Richie,
    Roger
