An Edmunds head for the wide block 51-56 308's.

I sure would appreciate any help in finding one.

I've got other Hudson aluminum heads to trade, and about any other configuration of steel head.

  • I'd like to find one also thats in really great shape for '51-'56. Seen them on ebay already in the $300-400 range, but alot of time they have damage, plugs broken off or helicoil inserts. Also some may be for narrow blocks or the seller is not sure.
  • I'll take the damage. I haven't seen one on e-bay in a very long time. Last Edmunds head I saw on e-bay was a New In Box head for a narrow block super six.

    I'm still looking.

  • I've got two left. We had 3. I'll have to check the condition of them and see if Dad wants to sell them. We sold the last one on Ebay but I don't remember what it went for.
  • I would really appreciate it harcoequip! Such generosity may get you a visit. I used to live and work around Dalton/Chatsworth - I'd sure love to visit that part of the country again.

e-mail me at HEThudfarm@nctc.com you know the proceedure, drop the HET.

    THANKS!!!

  • Pardon my ignorance, but I thought helicoil inserts were a good thing. Is there some disadvantage of which I'm unaware?
  • Harcoequip, I'd also be interested in an Edmunds head if for a wide block 51-56. If you end up putting on ebay, let us know. Thanks
  • Helicoils are generally a sign of damage and repair (or attempted repair) There's also several different type on the market. Spring or coil type and the threaded inserts. I would think a preference for a more permanent repair would be the threaded insert. The disadvantage generally would be a larger hole to drill and tap to install over the coil type. Certainly, I would prefer to have parts with neither installed.

I had steel threaded inserts put into the aluminum head on my C8 since the steel is superior to aluminum for galling and in the odd chance that there is a cross thread situation (should be rarer in a flathead, but I did do it to my Subaru several years ago and that sucked big time!)
  • Outside of using an Aluminum head for something such as a custom application of an Edmunds, or Clifford, I would probably prefer to use a cast iron Hudson head over aluminum every time.

    just my opinion...
