overdrive solenoids

I have 2 overdrive solenoids that were taken off stepdown transmissions. One is about 3/4 inch longer than the other. Am I dealing with 2 different makes of transmissions or a different maker of the solenoid? Are they interchangeable?
Thanks ,

  • I believe the '48-49 solenoids are slightly different from the later ones, but stand to be corrected on that. Providing the actuators are the same length it should not be a problem the actual physical size of the casing. Does anyone have wiring diagram for '46-'49 overdrives? I have the one for '50 onwards.
  • If memory serves me correct, the one with longer pall is for earlier 41-47 transmission, they will not interchange.

Geoff will provide after I get home in a few hours -- hope the information on the sheet was sufficient. The 48 and 49 solenoids have an additional holding coil that is not required for the later Hudson applications.
  • The number on the longer bodied solenoid is 1118147, which would be for the dual lever. What years had the dual lever. The person who needs the solenoid has a 53 hornet. Thanks for all your help.
