where would one find those rubber straps for 1928 essex door straps?

i have been using ratchet straps cut down to 6'' then folded over , screwed in ... I know it's not right

I made mine from some scraps of leather I had laying around and from the steel stops that were laying inside the doors.

I also made tie rod gaiters with some pigskin scraps.
