What color/how it was plated? '54 Hornet grille inner horizontal plate.

1st my apologies for a bit too dark photo... Below the center horizontal bar, between the parking lights there is a inner horizontal panel behind the stainless lower bar. It's not stainless, mine has quite a bit of surface rust and looks like it has been painted black, but paint chipped off because of corrosion... However, I'm not sure, was the black paint original or painted by some previous owner... My aim is to restore grille to factory spec.
