Howdy all ,
Looking for a fuel pump flow through for startups so I can take less time off my starter use .

NAPA sells them. I put one on my ‘35 T-plane 25 years ago. Still works to load the carb or if it vapor locks after a drive and a short stop.

+1 more for the Carter P4259. I know Carter pumps have suffered in quality in recent years, but that one seems to have lower defects. You can run that one as full service if the mechanical one drops out on the road too.

I looked at the specs for the Carter P4259. A few questions?
Says negative ground. How do you wire the GRD/earth?
Is it a pass thru? How is the plumbing done?
Any help would be appreciated

The 4259s (both 6 and 12 volt variants) have 2 isolated terminal posts. This model doesn't ground through the case, so it shouldn't have a positive or negative ground designation. If you're still positive ground, just attach the + post wire to the chassis and provide switched supply to the - post.
This pump is rotary vane, so drawing fuel through it with a downstream pump when it's not powered is no problem.
Plumbing is a very simple in-line affair between the tank and the mechanical pump. It's also plenty strong enough to draw if you place it closer to the engine than the tank. Some pumps need to be very close to the tank to prime properly.
While this pump is low pressure and doesn't need an external regulator, it may help you identify a failing float valve or two. So, first time you prime the carb on it, keep an eye on your float bowl.

I have been using an AIRTEX E8902 External 6 volt electric fuel pump for more than 20+ years - in all 5 of my Hudsons & Terraplanes. I have never had any failures, inline pump that clears vapour lock, used to get fuel to the carby before cranking, when the engine fires up, I switch it off and the mechanical pump works as per normal operation. The pumping pressure does not affect the needle and seat. Everything runs like normal.

I've used Airtex as well. They were fine pumps. Airtex was purchased by Trico in 2019. Trico and Carter are both part of the epic First Brands monster debacle that still hasn't been settled. At some point decisions were made about which redundant products should live and which should be discontinued. If you get your hands on a 'Airtex' looking pump in 2026, it's probably an imported imposter. I suppose you can find some genuine NOS on eBay, though.

Found this on the Ford Barn Site.
Installed an AirtexE8902 electric fuel pump (the gold standard, right?) to prime the Holley 94 2-barrel carb when the ’48 Ford Tudor Super Deluxe Flathead has been sitting for a few hours or a few days. Wired it into a toggle switch and then into the ignition switch. Turned on the ignition, flipped the toggle expecting a SpaceX launch moment and got a fizzle. The pump runs and is quiet, but will not pump a drop of fuel to the carb. Called Airtex technical support and this is what I was told. The “newer” Airtex E8902 is a weaker pump than it used to be before Airtex was purchased by TRICO (Jan 2019), which also makes the Carter pump. It doesn’t have the umph that the old one had. The instructions said to locate the pump “near the fuel tank” and “on the frame or other firm body member no more than 24” above the floor of the fuel tank.”
