HORNET engine rebuild
Some progress on rebuild but first a question: I am ready to align the crank and cam gears to install the timing chain. Is there a way to do this after piston #1 at top dead center and then set cam gear by valve clearance adjustment? Am I making this clear? Otherwise I will be turning cam gear with strap wrench - removing it - trying alignment - over and over. In phot I set up dial indicator on mag base to place piston #1 up. Not much help from shop manual. Gert

Coming along - valves timed - question about oil filler tube on Hornet engine - I am having to remove one off a parts engine - how to get it off w/o destroying it - can't punch it out - tried twist it - so far no go. The machine shop that I bought the engine from hot tanked the block and of course removed the tube. Gert

I have only done the install by counting the pins between the dots on the gears as outlined in the Clifford Performance catalog. if you use that method you can't really mess it up.

If you are installing a stock timing chain, you can temporarily install the cam gear and rotate the cam by hand to ensure the dot is at 2:00. Rotate the crank so that the keyway is at 12:00. Gears only fit on one way so you just need to ensure that you have 14 pins or 7 links between the dots.
