With the engine on a stand -rotatable- I have set valve clearances cold and now need to turn crank bolt in nose off. Used the crank front bolt to set valve lash and now need to remove bolt to install timing chain cover. How to do this - should I put 2x4's at crank throws to keep crank from turning as I remove bolt? No flywheel attached. No oil pan attached - can turn engine upside down to place 2x4 wooden blocks. Gert

2x4 should do the trick. Leave it upright, so if any splinters come off the 2x4, they don't go in the engine. An impact wrench will likely work as well.
