Just received my '51 Hudson Hornet last night, was delivered around 8pm. Now, I need to get to work on it. First thing will be getting the brakes going, the pedal just goes to the floor. As I saw in Automobile magazine recently, it would be more effective to stop the car by hanging your head out the window and exhaling!



Does anyone have any suggestions as to service manuals that are a "must have" for someone servicing/restoring a Hudson? Not only drivetrain, but body manuals, etc?



I'd appreciate the advice.

    Congrats on the 51! Any pictures? The HET club store has reprints of the manuals you'll need. Get them all. If you're not a club member, please join.

    My understanding is that, at present, only H-E-T members may order from the store, though.

    I attached a pic, at least I think I have... I've downloaded the app for HET club, thanks for the info!



    Also, has anyone purchased the manuals on CD-ROM available on eBay? Was wondering if that was worth it.

    Actually, with a Hudson the brakes should never go to the floor. There is a mechanical back-up that cuts in when there's no juice in the system and which applies the emergency brakes with the pedal. After you have gotten the hydraulic system back up and running, be sure to adjust that mechanical linkage correctly....'just in case'.

    Just one picture Of that beauty Brian? How about many more? Personally, I like the paper manuals. If needs be, you can take them to the garage for reference.

    Hi: Original manuals are available via eBay and good reproductions can be had from the HET CLUB STORE. I was wondering is your car the Hudson that was sold via eBay and used as one of the DOC Hudson mold cars by Gunnar Motors?

    Thanks, yes this is the one. I know there was some talk about this one on this forum. I'm just excited to own it and plan to restore it and use it to take the family around every so often and show it. My goal is to keep it for a long time. My son's name is Hudson and this one's for him. The car is in great shape, no major rust areas that I can find, anywhere. It came with lots of original paperwork, owners manuals (a consolidated version and a more detailed version), original brochures, 1951 Hudson calendar, even a 1st place car show plaque, older pics, and lots more. It should be relatively easy to get it presentable. It runs remarkably well, but the brakes are completely gone, no mechanical brakes either, so it was interesting getting it from the street to the garage (didn't want to overshoot and crush my toolbox!).



    i downloaded the app for HET club and will send that off today. Looks like there are some great resources out there. Thanks everyone for your suggestions!

    Where are you located? Whether or not you elect to join a local chapter, I'm sure you'd still be welcome to show up at one of their activities. And, you might meet someone with expertise or parts that would speed the repairs of your 'new' Hudson.

    I'm in Central Florida, unfortunately, I didn't see a local chapter in Florida.
