Proper way to clean oil pickup housing and screen
I have an engine that has large dark/black stains on the oil pickup housing/screen, externally and internally!! It seems only rational that these engine components should be shiny and bright like new metal before I reinstall on my rebuilt engine. I've heard 1) vat or hot tank process, 2) lacquer thinner, 3) diesel fuel, 4) carburetor cleaner, etc. Any ideas on the proper and best procedure to SANITIZE this portion of the crancase of the engine?

Here's what I use. Seems to work OK. Use kerosene and appropriate brushes, followed by mineral spirits. Lots of elbow grease.0
