Let's start another feud on the board....
I was thinking this today. We always seem to have the modifiers against the purists.
But I got one better. I was outside today in COLD Pennsylvania, and was thinking how much I dislike all of you California and Florida and Arizona types.
I bet you guys have some pretty nice weather right now, huh?
That's what I think of your dry heat, jsrail...

Hudsonkid,
I live in the California desert (western Mojave, 3800 ft above sea level). It was 30 degrees at 6a.m. when I left for worh this morning, and it has warmed up the last few days. I've been driving the '40 Hudson to work. No heater... I wear jeans, a heavy jacket and a blanket over my legs.0 -
Warm weather? It was 18 degrees at about 7:00 am the other day at my place in the western Mojave. I hate you guys in cool Pennsylvania in the summer when we have 120 degree weather and you have balmy 85 degree weather.0
-
hahaha..
see I told you this would be fun!
I always thought the desert was HOT?
at least the cars are rust free though...0 -
Who cares how hot or cold it is?
Not only do I finally have a shop...but it's got heat/ac and I won't have to go outside except to get food, beer, tp, and parts for the Hudson!
Of course it only took 44 1/2 years...0 -

Okay, you made my list.
I'm happy for you, yet jealous.
couple more years...0 -
You think you've got it Bad? It barely got up to 85 today. Its the same thing here everyday 365 days a year. When I get up its just about 80 everyday, it gets up to about 85 everyday, its sunny everyday and there is a constant breeze off the ocean everyday.
We are lucky if it rains 2 times a year at my house. The worst part is the girls in bikinis, they are every where, at the beach, at the mall, at the park. How can I get any work done on my Hudson!! It sucks!! Oh well thats life on Maui. Somehow I will find a way to keep going!
46super60 -
Hey 46super6 I believe you need to hire me so I can
watch all those bikinis for you and hand you tools while
you work on your Hudson!
I will work for cheep beer...but I got to warn you I do
drink quite a lot!

We used to have bikini car washes here.......wonder what happened to them?
Its like 48 degrees right now.....bbuurrrrrr! (6:45am) Will be mid-60's to low 70's over the next few days they say. Now that its getting cooler, tax season comes and I won't be able to work on my Coupe until the hot summer next year!
I will say we have virtually no mosquitos or flies out here!

Jay,
You can thank the feminist and the leftist liberals for killing the bikini washes. I think a car wash with sheep would be a good protest- we could call the car wash "Deliverance". ...but then again, the animal activist would be upset at losing some of their loved ones...0 -

THe cold is starting to move in to this area. It was 40 last night for Todays High and the temp is supposed to drop to 13/15 for a Low. Fridays High to be around 38 with again a Low of 15. Then it will warm up on Saturday to 48 for the High and 22 for the Low. Personally, I feel sorry for those that do not have all 4 seasons. I love Springtime and the moderate temps it brings with it. Summer, does get hot in July and August, can be a bother but that only makes me look forward to Fall, with its moderate temps, and the turning of the leaves. Winter can be a hassle but generally is mild, except for the occaisional heavy snowfall. I don't even worry about the snow because in the winter I stock extra groceries and set up an alternate heat source then if it snows a lot my Wife and I stay home and enjoy it, If not the Jeep gets us through it to where we need to go.. The secret is knowing when to go and when to stay home.
I was raised in Mid Ohio and since we move to East Tennessee (1971) we have had one ice storm (1979 when 2 inches of ice covered everything for a couple of days) and one really bad snowstorm (32 inches in 1994 I believe)that left snow on the ground for about a week. Other than those the effect of the weather are usually around for 3-4 days at the most. Of course, I live in the foothills of the mountains, In the Mountains proper the effects are much more sever.

OK Kid I'll join your regional fray! LOL I'm from Chicago and we're allowed maybe 20 nice days a year because all you shmoes in CA. FL. and AZ stole our good weather. We do have mosqitoes, flies, and it's always a humid heat! We loose half our population in winter because everyone goes down to blinkin Florida. We get zero relief from bad weather because unlike TN. there has to be 80 feet of snow on the ground before our fearless leaders in the "city of broad shoulders" say, "hmmm guys maybe we shouldn't go to work today". Nope no rest... no breaks EVER.... we move the snow and keep on workin. As far as women, well we can't have them in bikini's a single woman in a bikini would back up traffic in Chicago for the rest of the year and it's already bad enough!!! That's why the wimps in the Wisconsin half of our chapter won't come down to a meet in Chicago. LOL TAKE THAT!! (hits you all with a snowball)0

Here in Northern New England (barely) we have the usual saying - "you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes - it'll get worse."
I figure we could change the climate up here, if only we could figure a way to swap Canada for Mexico. Maybe I could get a govm't grant to study the feasability of such a move.
I saw a harbinger of winter yesterday - a flock of geese headed south. A little late, as they usually come down the flyway in October, early November. It's worth standing out in the cold on an early November night, watching a flock of geese flying across a big full moon, listening to them "talking" to each other.
It's a strange thing - 20º in Memphis doesn't seem as cold as 20º in Maine. Must have something to do with it being damp here in New England.

Living here in the moderate climes of western Washington, I don't get to participate much in the "weather wars". Winters usually in the 40's, summers in the 70's, quite a bit of drizzly rain in the winter, but summers are surprisingly dry (not uncommon to go a month or two without rain). I ain't complainin'.0

Maybe so true...but there is the "mass of humanity" and traffic issues it causes if you live anywhere in the Puget Sound/Seattle Region where it takes an hour in the middle of the day to drive 10 miles!0 -

Don't show too many photos of our pristine area! Too many people moving here already!0 -
Here in Phoenix we have a terrible challenge in the winter - we have to shovel the "SUN". Don't see much snow here, with a few exceptions.
Yep the summer is "warm", but it's a dry heat (so it says in fine print).
Nice thing about this area - you can HUDSON 12 months of the year!!!!, but when to find time to work on them?

LOL
Have a GREAT day guys0 -

Its so nice here in Sunny Southern California there are several illegal allians cutting my neighbors grass right now. I love our government. "NOT". Ron.......OH I forgot..They wont be illegal for long will they.0 -
Here in the Adirondacks of NY we have black flies, skeeters, all jaws, no seeums, house flies, deer flies, horse flies and snow flies.
It snowed s'deep last winter, that y'had t'go upstairs to see out the windows and had t'dig tunnels to the outhouse, barn etc. In the spring the snow melted and there were those tunnels so t'get rid of 'em grandpaw cut 'em up into 20 foot lengths and sold 'em to the county for culverts.0 -
The last winter I spent in PA was in '93. That was the same winter that Guvner Casey closed down the state because it was too cold. (minus 30 before windchill or some bullcrap like that)
No amount of money or guilt could get me to move back to central PA.
Besides, you don't have to worry about vacuum wipers here in the desert.0 -
It's 19 degrees here in sunny OK with a wind chill of about ten or so. I'ver got my shop, too, so I really don't care about the weather, either way.
I've lived in the "real" desert (Saudi Arabia, courtesy of Uncle Sugar), and for those of you under the illusion that the desert is always hot, think again! I've seen 28 degrees in Riyadh on a cold December night...and I've seen 172 degrees on a concrete flight line there, too!0 -

Sure, Tom, we have our "moments", but all in all, we don't have much to complain about.0 -
Let's just say that it's easier for the northerners to deal with the cold, ice and snow that those from normally warm climates. When ice or snow occur in places where it normally doesn't, people in those locations don't seem to know how to drive in it and wind up playing bumper cars.0
-
Okay you Northerners! Global warming might just put you guys in great weather! Then us in AZ will be like the Kalahari!
I'm moving to New Zealand. They have topless gals on motorcycles on Parade in Downtown Auckland I hear!
When we lost the bikini washes, I started becoming more libertarian!0 -

I'll put our Maine black flys, skeeters, et-al, up against them New York pansies any day. One time, back when Loring Air Force Base was still in operation, they pumped 3500 gallons of JP-5 jet fuel into an airplane - before they realized it was a North Maine Mosquito. Them things have been known to lug off a full grown moose - just to get it away from the BIG ones.
You folks should come down Maine sometime to the annual TRACK (The Rusty Antique Car Klub) festival (see I did work old cars in here). We got a beauty contest where the girls get into their bikini's (ain't that a sight to see - some of them lovelies run to about 300 pounds) and stand on the back of a flat bed truck. Last one to flinch from a black fly or mosquito bite, wins. Then we have the "bench pressin' contest", also for the ladies. We line up however many needed old Ford ton-and-a-half trucks. The first lady to unbolt the engine, lift it out of the truck and carry it to the finish line wins.
What we got in Maine is 5 seasons - winter, black fly, mud, 4th of July and tourist season. Tourist season is the two weeks between 4th of July and winter. The TRACK festival is held the 2nd week of black fly season, usually late April or early May, but it can be any time between March and June.
Looking out at the white winterland this morning brings up another point about New England - the weather birds are lousy!!! Predicted - snow showers; Reality - there's about 4 to 6 inches out there, folks. First snow of the season and the weather "person" done got it wrong ALREADY!!! GOD, I love living in New England!!!!!!!!
Y'all have a great evening.

I agree with Patrick. I spent a little time near the equator- Somalia- A black flight deck and long sleeves make for a balmy situation! Wind chill? Wind chill is when all you see is water, it's 22 degrees and 60 knot winds! I once saw a skinny fellow get blown off of his feet and start rolling down the deck- thank God for padeyes! Anyways...I will be painting my sedan this weekend, no matter what the temperature!0
