How can you tell the difference between a 308 and 262 with twin H . It's in a 53 or 54 Super Wasp. Thanks drivergo2:)

The 308 blocks have a reinforcing ridge along the bottom of the crankcase, whereas the 232 and 262 blocks are plain sided.
  • The rib is about 1 inch above the oil pan rail on the left (distributor) side of the block & runs the length of the block. It protrudes about 3/16 of an inch.
  • SCUSE ME, rib is about2 in. above oil pan rail & there's one on each side of the block!

Note the rib on the side of the block... 232 and 262 do not have this rib.
  • Whomever owns that engine needs to replace the original "crankcase breather FILTER" with a tapered, shorty one from K&N; otherwise airborne debris (dust, sand, etc) will get into the crankcase (oil, filter, bearings (cam, rod & main) and serve to destruct the oil rings, & u-name-it).

The original breather's are basically worthless; I believe this is the primary reason for the oil rings to wear out prematurely, in addition to bearings, timing chain, valve guides & all moving parts.

On the other hand if you plan on just looking at it and not running it, looks pretty/original.
  • You can go to the K&N website and look it up, knowing the OD of the oil filler tube (based upon my memory, ~ 2").

You could slide the rubber flange over the tube and add a simple clamp to hold it in place which would require unscrewing it at each removal, plus retightening during reinstallation.

However, in my case, I put the clamp on the tube just below where I want the filter to rest; filter's a snug fit so it won't go any where.
