Hmmmmmm - 2 years ago I bought a 1997 Cadillac that cost me $3500 initial purchase, then $1500 to replace the engine (garage did take $1000 of the price because it was pretty much their fault the problem occured.
Oh, well, I still have the Caddy, it did tow 10 x 12 UHaul trailer weighing between 2000 and 2500 pounds to TN, and it's still running great now.

My wife also buys them in our family Sam. We got a Boston Upright from Steinway that was a show model for about $5K under regular price (including her $1,500 piano teacher discount). But this was after having to follow her around to every piano store in the valley so she could play every one she was considering! (almost as bad as women's shoe shopping) But she is a piano teacher who is very picky, yet likes to find the deals.0 -

Actually, I love hearing those stories. What else did you buy for your kids that you sold for more money than what you paid for it? Probably not much else, maybe baseball cards and comic books...
A big part of my business is buying old wrecks of pianos from the '50's and '60's and fixing them up for resale. Unfortunately, I never seem to have enough of them.0 -

Actually, I helped my son buy 1988 Acura with 202,000 miles on it when he started his senior year in high school. We paid $1,000 for it. He drove it all through University. Last July, almost 5 years later, I sold it for $950 after he left for Africa. It had 261,000 miles on it. He and his buds had just returned from a problem-free "road trip" from SoCal to Vancouver, B.C. and back. So, maybe not as good deal as the piano, but not bad.
A great dad would have bought him a new Escalade for his 16th birthday, I guess...if I had the do-re-me, though, it would probably make more sense to by 60 $1,000 Acuras...hey, you just might get 3,600,000 trouble-free miles out of them...:D0 -
Actually, I helped my son buy 1968 Acura ...
Are you sure about that year?0 -
