Hoping to find a transmission dust cover for a 54 Hornet cpe Automatic.



Also a 6 volt temp sending unit to fit a 308. Don't care what it looks like,

just as long as it works....

    Sorry I cannot specify one of the two. Someone mentioned sometime ago that it was Borg Warner, but you couldn't prove it by me. However here is what reads in the shift lever. P N D L R. If you can derive anything from that

    then please post it...

    That's the Borg-Warner trans. Hydro does NOT have a park position, That's what reverse is for!

    Dave the temp sending unit does not care what voltage... it is a resistor that gets less resistant with heat. Try NAPA ECHLIN TS-6464, 1959 AMC 250 V8 1/4" pipe thread sender,

    Borg Warner does NOT have a "P" for Park



    I suspect it does not have a "P" on your select indicator; don't believe the Hydra-matic had a "P" either as every one I've seen "parked" was positioned in "R" for reverse, typical for the Hydra-matic's



    So your description is VERY confusing.

    My 1955 Motor's Auto Repair Manual in the section for the Borg-Warner Automatic Drive shows a Parking Brake (as its called) in the sectional view, in the remove/install section and in the adjustment section it talks about moving the shift level toward Park position.

    P N D L R is the correct indicator for the B-W automatic, and yes the park pin engages in with the selector in R.

    I have attached scans of the Hudson Manuals showing the THREE different sector plastics which support the three different automatic transmissions. The pictures are posted in the following order...




    1. Borg Warner, 1954
    2. Single range Hydra
    3. Dual Range Hydra



    The manual provides specifics on how to park the car and thier recommendations for use of the transmission selector.



    During the restoration of a 1954 Hornet Sedan, I removed the BW automatic and installed a rebuilt Hydra from a 53 Hornet. The sector plastic from the 53 was used to replace the 54 piece. The installation viewed as factory... for all intents and purposes... it was ... just done by me.

    th first pic is of the Borg Warner aut not hydro, you have the Borg wasrner, that is why the hydro dust cover will not work, bil albright
