Sounds like a good topic, I think this one will be fun...

I want to hear about your perfect hudson, what color, body style, engine, options, transmission choice, etc... tell me, tell all.

One important note, you cannot participate if you say it is an italia, or the x-161, :p other than that, everything is fair game, even Hashes, and Jets....

here's what I have in mind....

1951 Hudson Pacemaker club coupe, Black, twin H, 308, hydramatic

I was gonna say a 52, but honestly, I prefer the little taillights of the 51's over the 52's, I think the 52's got the wasp taillights, which are good looking, but not as clean as the 51's...

  • Several 1929 Hudsons at the Hudson Museum would be my dream Hudson pick. The best year for Hudson was 1929 you know :)

Sounds like a familiar style car with the exception of the hydromatic! Actually, I have been contemplating redoing the engine in the coupe and changing up to a hydromatic......
  • One that that dose'nt look like a 53 Ford.

  • To be able to go back 56 yrs and have the 37 Terraplane I owned then, had 32,000 miles on it with all the options and looked like it just came off the showroom floor, I'd give it a WHOLE LOT more respect than that 16 yr old kid did, even tho he knew he had a very fine car and treated it so, I'd do even better the second time around.

Sorry I have had multiple dreams:

1929 Hudson - Almost there, I am almost done with the engine on a Town Sedan and will drive it with its good original interior. Some day I would love a 29 Hudson Roadster. I was going to trade one of my kids to Glen Johnson for his, but my wife blocked the transaction.

1934 Hudson - I found out a picture of my great grandfather leaning on the fender of his 1934 Hudson (sedan?). I never knew he had one. For some reason I want one now. Must be something in my blood.

1946 Hudson - have two unrestored pickups that come right after the 29. Although if I stumbled across a 34, I am not sure I am strong enough to resist.

1951 Hudson Hornet coupe or convertible - I wanted one of these long before Doc Hudson came around. Darned if he didn't drive the price up. Just waiting for the "Cars" ferver to die down and for the estate sales of some you old guys! ; )

I am just a simple guy with humble tastes all in the flavor of Hudson. Sort of looks like I want one from every decade (I would take a '09 and '17 but didn't want to sound greedy!)

  • thats easy, my 31 essex with a nasty 401 nailhead 5 or 6 spd od trans and some 3.73s. black steel wheels with firestone bias plies no bumpers and maybe an aluminum hood, top only no sides. the power to go 11's at the strip, light enough and enough low rpm torque that with the overdrive it will still click off over 20 mpg. add heat and just maybe a/c. i guess the seat could be a little more long haul friendly.

I can't choose between the following; I'd like to own them all:

1940 Hudson 8 Country Club LWB sedan in black, like Hedley Bennett has.

    1940 H Pickup with a 308 and stick/OD tranny in Hudson blue

1954 Wasp Brougham updated to 308 Twin-H with a 700R4 tranny in lipstick red. :D
  • I Love My 53 Hornet, But The Two Best Looking Hudsons To Me Was The Woody Hudson And H. Bennets 37 Hudson Conv. At The National In Auburn Ind. I Would Give My Hornet And Any Thing Else That I Have For Either One.

Geez, I forgot about Bill Eggert's woodie wagon. I want that one too!
  • I want the Satan of Morimar...
    731805-0-0.jpg
  • Three come to mind immediately so they must be my dream Hudsons. I don't know which I would prefer so I'll just list them in chronological order:

    1) 1934 Hudson Cabriolet restorod-all original body and trim either black or beige, with black top. Drive train with late model maybe Corvette.

    2) 1934 Terraplane pickup-bright red, white-walls and everything just like it rolled off the assembly line in 33-34.

    3) 1942 Commodore Eight Convertible-classic red or beige with restorod build either similar to the '34 described in 1) above or late model drivetrain and suspension adapted to a modified and flashy straight Eight Hudson engine.
  • geez... I got some flack on this one...

    1) Yeah, 7Xpacemaker, your car is pretty much my ideal, with exception to the trans, but I could live with that...

    2) Sorry Frank Spring, I guess I socked you with a double whammy... ooops... We'll give you the exception...

All the rest of you guys, some neat cars you all got picked out there...

As funny as it sounds, isn't that the "sultan of Morimar"???
  • Well, if I had to pick, the '36 coupe I have is the one I've always wanted. I guess if I had to lose it though, that 53 ragtop sounds purdy good.:) [/I]
  • I'd have to have what Hudson did NOT build for the public, originally:

    Post-war cars:

    1) The woodie wagon at the Nationals, just as it is...

    .

    2) A '52 Hudson convertible woody (ala Chrysler Town & Country), in light tan with red leather interior and red top, with ash and mahogany trim in and out. 308 Twin-H, Hydramatic, air conditioning, power steering and brakes, Kelsey-Hayes wire wheels, three-inch wide whites...

    3) A '51 Hudson pickup woody, as described above, but with a 3-speed and OD, and a '48-'49 grille.

    4) A 308 Twin-H black/tan leather Italia, just because the Italia is "forbidden"in the dream list!

    Pre-war cars:

    1) '37 Terraplane coupe with every option possible in the day, in Black with tan leather interior...

    2) '28 Hudson Super Six boattail speedster, in red & tan with black fenders and running boards, with gold pinstriping...and a matching set of golf clubs, in tan, red and black with gold head covers and tan leather bag.

My dream Hudson would be to combine the two that I have owned. The 29 Victoria, painted Texas Tan with cream roof.

The engine would be the 29 Super Six with twin "H" and hdramatic. Install Centerpoint steering with the Hornet red steeringwheel. I always liked the color of the wheel in the sunlite.

I would keep the mechinical brakes, that eliminates lots of problems. Below the dash I would have that Hornet 8 tube radio so I and listen to it warm up, neat sound just before it plays music. Also gotta have that big knob for the center roof mounted radio antenna.

I've made that mistake before, I double checked it before I posted it. Here's a pic of the emblem.

1953 2 door sedan light blue,308 with Twin-H, 3 speed OD. Same as my dad had back in the fifties, ( no Twin H though).

'54 Wasp Hollywood, Lipstick Red and White, red and white leather interior, Twin H 308, Edmunds triple carb manifold (yes, they made a few) and finned head, Clifford headers, raked a little in the front. See ya down at the Burger Barn, where everyone would be looking at my car rather than the rat motor '67 Chevelle next to me. . .

I probably got my first dream Hudson 31 years ago when I got my 49 sedan. Since I grew up in a Hudson and I always wanted one like my fathers. He always said it was the best car he ever owned. Although it wasn't two tone green it was like my dads car and just sitting in the back seat brought back many fond memories of my youth.

A year later I purchased my 49 brougham. I immediately started taking the car apart with the plan to restore it to be like a new Hudson. It took me 28 years to complete and I got what I wanted. Everyone that sees the car says it looks like a brand new Hudson. So I guess I really have to say that my Brougham is my dream Hudson because I knew what I wanted the car to be like and was able to accomplish my dream.

Sounds like Woody, Italia, Wagon, might win this thing
  • Damn, a woodie Italia! I'd go there!

Actually, if you combine a Volvo P1800 wagon from the late '60s and the Italia, and you'd have a stunning, low-slung Hudson wagon, combined with Euro styling that is truly pleasing to the eye! Either as a wagon, or as a removable hardtop with a tonneau over an otherwise open bed...hmmmm!:D

After driving lots of Hudsons in the 1950s I bought my DREAM car in 1964 and still drive it today a 1951 SUPER-SIX-SPECIAL 2-door BROUGHAM Powered by the 308 engine.

    Thanks to all RUDY.

Mine will be the 1939 Hudson Convertible Custom that I have been speaking about on the Forum for the past few weeks. It will have a modern drive train (1959 Corvette with 3/2's n' progressive linkage.) It will have all of those custom features that someone used back in the early 50's trying to make it look British. It will be "resale" red, tan leather, and yellow spoke wheels. It will never look like it would do under 9 in a 1/4 mile... And, it will look right at home next to my 'original' Bonneville Salt Flats Racer...
