Anyone wanna have an avatar contest?
First off, for those who do not know, an avatar is the picture that shows in a thread, of each poster, if that poster chose to upload a picture to represent them on a message board. For example, mine is the picture of my 50 at the local "ex" hudson dealership.
I thought it might be fun to maybe have a avatar "challenge" have people put up their avatar, and see what we get.
Also, it might foster those who do not have an avatar, to get one. If you have trouble, or do not know, several of us on here will be glad to help you. I think it would be great to have everyone have an avatar of their hudson in their header of each post.
If you need help in either properly sizing a picture to have it fit the guideline for avatar requirements, or size, add a reply, we'll see what we can do.
Here are some of my favorite avatar pictures, that got me thinking about this... you can access them the same quick way I did, by going to the member's list tab, click on posts, and sort it by the most to least posts. It's fun to see everyone's avatar that way...
here are a few, in no specific order...
66patrick66 (a hash in an avatar, daring!)
geoff C (nice legs!)
Paullargetype (I like the setting of the picture!)
royer (nice shot of the jet, it has a tough stance in the picture!)
54 hswh (uhhh... what can I say... her sister has a hudson...)
huddy 55 (nice front shot of a hash)
browniepetersen ( I like this picture!)
rarerodder (nice patina!)
hey, and that's just a few in the first 25 pages.... check em out. let me know what you think. I'm thinking of changing mine, anyhow, but thought I would toss it out there!
If this doesn't fly, or no one wants to bother, I got another idea I might throw out there as well.

I don't know about a contest...you've already hurt Rambos feelings by not picking his picture as your absolute favorite one... What you don't like the "In your face" picture of Rambo as my avatar? I guarantee you when you meet Rambo - that's where he'll be..in your face!
If you can't tell I am just having fun with you HudsonKid...
Here's some pictures I gathered from some other sites that people had used for their avatars and I liked them so much I asked for larger images to keep. These pictures also show the difference in image types that you can make into an avatar...But First - Rambos Avatar Source Picture! This one really hits home these days!A Holiday Theme! And my favorite (besides Rambo's)...
"Too Fast For Me!"0 -
Here's fullsize picture of my avatar - '53 Super Jet sedan. Have owned it since Nov. 1966.

It is hard to find a better place to back ground your car than at Yellowstone National Park. This shot was near Mamouth at the north entrance taken at the Yellowstone Challenge a few years back.
Thanks for featuring me in your picks. Love the color of Rabo's eyes...0 -
The avatar I use is from my 29 Hudson Victoria which has a Biddle & Smart body with dual sidemounts.
Somehow I have a second Avatar in the body of my note and I do not know how to remove it.
Interesting stories of why you'all chose your avatars.

Alright HK, I'll e-mail my next avatar to you to post for me and if it's judged will I'll use it.

How's my new avatar rate?

alright you guys....
I had several requests as to how to put up an avatar, so I'm gonna list the instructions here for those that are "avatar impaired"
Here goes....
1) you need to select a picture (.jpg) that you wish to use as anavatar.
2) this picture "file" needs to be sized at 80 x 80 pixels, which is small. You can do this in photoshop, or any other image manipulation program, I think even windows picture and fax viewer, but it should be do able....
3) Remember where you have this file stored (like on your C: drive, usually put it on your desktop. You will need to be able to point to it, to upload it on Classic Cars forum.
4) On the Forum page, there is a "tool bar" that has several options available, (even on this page) that starts out, "User CP, FAQ, Member List, etc... Click on "User CP"
5) On the left, under "Setting and Options" click on "edit Avatar"
6) Scroll down to "Custom Avatar" click the bullet "Use custom Avatar"
7) Under "Upload Image From Your Computer:" here is where you click "Browse" this is where you have to remember the "path" where you got your image stored. If you put it on your desktop, for the most part, it should be something similar to taking you to a window on your computer where you need to locate your image.
8) When you find your sized image for your avatar, click it, it should populate the Upload image from computer window.
9) CLick save changes, and voila, you should have an avatar.
If you have any questions, post them up, and one of us here will get you going....0 -

29 Vic, your image you speak of, is in your signature post. You can remove this by going under the same User CP, and clicking on "edit signature" there will apear a box, that will say "your signature" in there, it will list a URL for the picture you got there. Highlight everything in the box, and delete. Click "save signature" on the bottom, and it should be gone.0 -
im tipping my hat into the ring with my avatar, an old housemate of mine took this photo of my hudson one night while the bushfires burned through northern victoria in Dec 06. he is a talented soul and it is one of my favourite photos ever0

Here is my pride and joy 55 Hudson avatar. Description as follows... Photo taken whilst car in Sydney at my parents home (they also own many HET and AMC products) in their back yard double carport. I live in Brisbane (1000kms away) It appears it is parked on grass but really is parked on blue gravel. I purchased the 55 from Rosewood QLD approx 45km southwest of Brisbane in 2001. The car was once owned by the late Gordan Yarrow (long time HET USA club member). The body was done over 15 years ago including a thin coat of paint in which still wears today. I have rebuilt the gearbox, rechromed everything, polished all stainless, purchased Geniune 55 wheelcovers (aussie 55's only use hubcaps with dress rims) and factory radio, thin white walls, continental kit that is yet to be fitted, new brakes, bushes, NOS coil springs, clutch, exhaust (2 1/2") with 3" tail pipe (sounds perfect) and much more and much more to do. I had this car up to 100 MPH in late 2001 on a freeway. My car recently arrived in Brisbane after 2 years in Sydney and not being started during this time it has leaked water into a cylinder. In the next few weeks the 308 will be taken out and will under go a total rebuild. The engine bay will also be stripped to nothing and redone. Wish me luck...lol.0

Here goes

I was going to use mine to show progress on my Commodore. I did use this one.
Now I changed to this one.
Well close to it, but I have made more progress and I am just waiting for time and weather to take more pictures.0 -
here is another shot i would of used for one from last summer. this is one of those photos that looked better before it became a digital file, ie when you look at it through a slide projector0
-
If one of you more image savvy people can make this into an avatar for me I won't say no.
Don't know what the problem is, but when I have the image at avatar size, the file size is still way too large and won't upload.
Thanks in advance. Email coldesigATgilDOTcomDOTau0 -

Harry,is this a minature jackass??.I ask because it looks like my neighbor??.Need to turn it around so I can see his face!!!:eek:0 -
Does your neighbor drive a minivan? It's a miniature mule. I raised him myself and he does all kinds of tricks. The worst trick I taught him was to sit in my lap. When he was little it was cute. Now that he's a couple of hundred pounds when he sits on me I have to wait for him to want to get up because I can't move him. If I'm working in the yard and sit down in the grass he lays down with his head in my lap and takes a nap. He's kind of like the biggest dog you'll ever own and he has hooves and he's not house broke. Does that sound like your neighbor?
Harry0 -
Well, kinda, the neighbor complains when I mow my lawn and he's trying to take a nap??kinda looks like him,his minivan is red,not white and, house broke, don't know for sure, but:eek: he's full of Crap!!!0

I don't know how to post the pic... I'll try again. Mine is my 2 biggest projects in liofe. The Charger was purchased from a sink hole and I completly restored it in a 2 car garage....
The kid... Jillian is 9 now, and a growing pain... she started 10 weeks preemie at 3lbs. She lost significant weight and was pretty much doomes. Anyway, 9+ years later here she is, happy, healthy and enjoying life as any +9 year old should. Thanks for the Grace of God, miracles DO happen.0
