Clutch and Transmission Work!!!!!

I got enough stuff re-attached today that I was able to start the Pacemaker and see if I had the clutch and transmission installed properly.

They work!!!!!! I am able to shift through all the gears just fine. I will have to adjust the clutch pedal (still do not have the main spring on yet) as I get a little grinding going into reverse. But then maybe attaaching the drive shaft to the output shaft will help that.

My goal is to get enough re-assembled to be able to drive it on the trailer when the Army moves us in three weeks back to Fort Leonard Wood (Route 66, here I come).

    Congratulations!

The grinding problem may also be a simple adjustment of the shift linkage rod... especially if the grinding happens in 2nd, as well.

On the off chance you swapped in the tranny from a long-wheelbase car, you're probably already aware that the single shift lever on the transmission itself is different on the Pacemaker vs. the LWB cars. The "clocking" of the double-D mounting hole is different to allow for the different shift rod length/position.
I was not aware that the Pacemaker and LWB "R" type transmissions were different. But this happens to be the original gear box for the car.

    Where's Fort Leonard Wood?
I-44 West/South West out of St. Louis, towards Springfield, MO and Tulsa, OK.

Home of the Engineener, Chemical and Military Police Schools, Basic Training and a few other schools for Enlisted and Officers.

The differences were all external (bolt-ons), unless Hudson offered some special Pacemaker-only 1st and 2nd gear ratios. Clutch diameter and the aforementioned shift lever are the two things I noticed were different. I learned about the latter when bolting a '51 Pacemaker overdrive trans into my '49 Super 6. The Pacemaker trans also had a strange right-angle gear reducer for the speedo cable, but I think Hudson did that on a few models for a little while in '51.

My speedo cable goes into the factory OD Unit at a right angle also, drivers side, opposit the OD govenor.
