Stepdown exhaust manifold "adapters" with pictures

What are the dimensions of the inlet flange (exhaust manifold side) of the adapter (bolt cl to cl distance and opening size)? Your pics on the first page shoes the outlet dimensions...

If I recall correctly you mentioned something about the adapter not "fitting" on the 175 / 212 motors... if the size is the same and orientation and space permits maybe it could work... or perhaps an adapter for the adapter could be made.

It would definitely be a cool option to run with the two barrel manifold if I go that route. Of course I could order one of those split manifolds....

  • Will that adaptor work on the Hash?
  • Harry:

I called Danny Barrier about the adapter fitting on a Hash(55-57) 6 cyl engine. He said he didnt know, havent checked with Mark Hudson yet. I suggest someone with intimate knowledge of the Hashes let us know.

    Craig:

Will be in your area this evening. Will call you on cel. Guess about 6. Will bring an adapter to show you. Thanks guys. More later, Hudsonly, Bob

The adaptor will not fit a Hash manifold. If you use a stepdown intake and exhaust manifold you should clear the body OK.:)

FYI I am having a guy in town make these bottom plates that bolt off the bottom of the barrier adapter with his CNC machine this week. Not trying to take business away just needed one for a job I'm doing on a members car. But can have him make a few more if soemone needs them, no mark up, just cost, plus shipping if someone needs them now.

Look'n good Craig!! You must be working on it alot!
  • Not spending enough time on it... been busy. Got everything ready to go just need to finish bolting it together and get her cranking.

Once we get her running good (hopefully) I'll explore the two barrel option...

I see you're planning an "open house" (meet) at your place... might have to see if I can swing a road trip...

  • BTW...

Bob did stop by my shop last night with those dual exhaust manifold adapters... nice pieces!

If you have a motor that these will work on you really ought to be running them.

Short of having headers these have got to dramatically improve exhaust flow... not to mention the the potential sound improvements and of course the "cool" factor (even for us old guys)!!!

Bob,I rec'd the manifold adapter today. I took pics of the way it looked when rec'd and as I un-packed it. It arrived in excellent shape. It was packaged very well, as a matter of fact the guys that make the "black boxes" for the airlines has nothing on you !! I hope to start on it this weekend. All parts look great, nice job and thanks for all your hard work Bob. Richie.
  • Will be in Murfreesboro, TN tomorrow morning 10-12 for our Midsouth Hudson club meeting. We will meet in the AACA club building behind Shoneys. We will bring 6 dual outlet exhaust manifold adapters and plates, if you are in the neighbor hood and would like to see them call me cel 256-762-4211. Hudsonly, Bob

    Hey,

So what was the determination on if the adaptors fit the 212?

Would love to have one for my 36T!

    Thanks,

    Jeff
  • Jeff:

We have a 47 Commodore coupe with a 212, exhaust exits to the front of the engine and turns down and to the rear. Cannot see anyway it would fit.

The dual outlet exhaust manifold adapter will fit all stock Hudson 232-262-308 engines using stock exhaust manifolds. We suggest removing the heat riser damper to improve exhaust flow with the "adapter".

We may have forgotten a detail or two, someone may have more info or better technical advice, please council with us. Thanks.

Thats what I was afraid of!!

    Thanks BOB!

I too have considered the 'split manifold' option but on the 36 the distributor is on that side of the engine. I am concerned about the amount of heat that it would be subject to so havent pursued it.

I do really want dual exhaust:(

    Got it Bob, thanks. Richie.
  • Bob, I think you told me the adaptor won't fit a Hash, can you explain to me why it won't. Thank You, Harry
  • Walt-LA and Hudsone1/Rich:

Products mailed US Post this morning Florence, AL Thanks, Bob
  • Harry:

Send me your email, think I may have some info that others sent me that I may be able to send to you. My email is (drop the HET) HETpbebop@gmail.com Thanks, Bob
  • Harry:

Since others may be interested in this info, we will post an email I received from Mark(Hudsonator) about installing the Dual Outlet Exhaust Manifold Adapter to Hudson products after 1954(HASH). I hope I have correctly made these comments and am only providing info, not recommendations.

Thanks to Mark for providing this info.

    Bob, 1-26-10

I got your message yesterday and decided it would be best to write out the answer in an e-mail, as it can get confusing.

The adapter will fit Hash single 2 barrel exhausts. They have the same flange pattern as a regular Hudson exhaust.

The adapter will NOT fit a Hash Twin-H exhaust manifold. Those were completely different animals. You cannot bolt a Twin-H intake manifold to the heat box of a Hash 2 barrel (or any other Hudson) exhaust manifold. The entire Twin-H intake/exhaust manifold was different from all previous systems. The only commonality is the ability to be bolted to the block.

However, They can be made to fit a Hash Twin-H by some modifictions that I never dealt with. My advice would be to get a the appropriate gasket from Dale Cooper and see for yourself. You don't often run into Hash Twin-H exhaust manifolds, but there is a significant difference in the flange bolt pattern. Paul Shuster has modified the adapter, in times past, to fit on a Hash Twin-H exhaust. I can't remember exactly what has to be done, but I'm sure he does. He bought the last undrilled adapters I had for that very reason.

I noticed that authentic 7x exhaust in the "adapter" thread. I'm sure you also noticed it lacked any provison for a heat flapper, even the portion of the exhaust manifold used to mount the flapper is absent. That's what I was talking about earlier. Originality isn't an issue in retaining the heat flapper, no real 7x had one anyway. If you also noticed, the flange bolt pattern of the original 7x "adapter" as it attaches to the exhaust manifold is different from anything Hudson ever mass produced. There's where your product differs from the "original". You cannot attach, or even modify, an original dual exhaust adapter to anything other than a real 7x exhaust manifold. Your adapter converts any Hudson stepdown exhaust into a 7x dual outlet. When it comes to advantage, I see no practical advantage to an authentic 7x over a regular stepdown exhaust with the flapper removed. The only advantage would be to the uber-purists who would only be happy with a 7x exhaust manifold owned by Marshall Teague himself. Happy Hudsoning! Mark

    Bob,

Received adapter and plate yesterday. Look great! Some packaging! with foam, yet! Adapter should free-up exhaust flow quite a bit over conventional pipe arrangement, which I'd connects to a single two inch, pipe, or there abouts. Now two pipes, and a bit larger.

If anyone knows the dimensions etc. of the original 7x outlet that is divided, I'd like to get them to put a feature in the Red River Chapter-HET newsletter.
