I pulled the radiator tonight, not too bad aside from the "conversion work". You can see fan marks too.

Note the extra spout on the bottom right

I'll break out the torch and see what I can undo I think...

I decided to replace the bearing and complete the cosmetic rebuild of the generator. I glass beaded the parts and they are drying now, hopefully I can reassemble later this week. I'll have it rewound a bit later, bigger fish to fry right now. Pics coming later this week.

Got the generator about done for now. I still need to have the windings checked out, but rust is gone, and bearings are new.

And some more water pump work ...

Got a box of frame parts today, I'm much closer now:). I can clean up my frame and straighten this out and I'll be good to go. Thanks Ric!

I really can appreciate how the Internet has changed this hobby. Maybe not all for the better, but I have received so much help with parts and information it's unbelievable. I hope posting all these little tidbits proves helpful to others as well.

Paul, Send info. I could get it around Docs meet this year.

Saturday I unsoldered the extra spout from the radiator, and removed the plug from the factory spout. I think I can work with this.

Also picked up a core "72" stamped carburetor from Ebay, per Walt this should be the correct carb for the car.

Both waterpump housings are stripped and ready for final assembly.

More radiator work. Made a patch from a scrap of copper pipe.

Tip from my brother, heat until cherry and quench in cold water to anneal and make it soft. Very easy to work with after that. More cleaning to do now, then solder up it up.

And have the water pumps ready for shafts and impellers.

Got the water jacket ready. Modified a later Hudson 8 unit to resemble the 33T8. I thought it was interesting that the later units were made by Dorman. The later neck is slightly larger, but its a good fit since the radiator repair I'm doing will also require a larger neck so I can put an outer sleeve on it. I hired out the welding :)

You can see here how rusty the baffle plate in the original one is.

Also blasted and repainted the spark plug wire housing.

Stripped all the junk that has been added over the years from the firewall.

I was planning to clean things up a bit and put the engine in, but the deeper I go, the deeper I go. Since I'm this far, I think I will remove the front fenders so I can properly clean the frame and front suspension. Oh well, I dont want to do it twice.

Thanks Pete -I'm trying and having fun:)

Oh yeah, I also found this rare "Pontiac " hood while cruising Ebay Saturday. It was 25 minutes from my house, now its in my house. Its going to Sam Ramsey to add to his 33T8 parts he's collecting to put a 33T8 convertible back together.

My firewall was bent at some point during the previous upgrade. I have the missing throttle linkage now, but I have to do some bending. As the weather improves, I will start working on my welding skills.

    photo 0B874ADA-1CC0-4ECC-929A-583615226538.jpg

I have to decide if I'm going to weld up the extra holes in the firewall while I have it at this point.

Since the front is this far apart, I decided to go a little further and remove the fenders to clean the frame before I get the engine back.

Heres some excellent body work done in the early 60s.

    photo E4FDD448-C410-4765-9ECC-654FFC7BE18E.jpg

Under the putty, I thought it was lead at first.

    photo 2EED2B5F-0C7E-46BA-BAAC-A210372A8176.jpg

It took some careful trimming to cut the weld without cutting the fender

At last, the inner fender is free!

    photo 4108C77A-C222-4811-A643-44A81D9295D7.jpg

This was the passenger side, it obviously had been worked on before. The drivers side is much better, and comes next!

Finally got the other side out and removed the front apron. Not much rust, but at some point it was all tacked together with a stick welder and puttied over .

Next, off come the fenders and start cleaning up the frame.

Sam Ramsey borrowed my inner fender panel and made a few new ones for his car, also made a pair for another member.

Finally got one front fender off. The previous repairs welded both sides of the lower apron to each front fender. This fender was also tack welded inside to the fender support.

That's racing red I believe. Apparently back in the day you could brush this stuff on and gain 10mph on the top end :)

In its past someone painted that red on most of the underside of all the fenders, frame, axles, springs etc. For contrast the brake drums were painted gray and the wheels brushed yellow :). It's all going to be black soon.
