I just thought I'd update this thread. I purchased one of Bill Craig's ball valves rather than continuing to hassel with the needle valve. The ball valve has solved the problem and there is no more leakage. Hurray!.

Better get into that gas tank as it must be full of varnish. You only did a temp fix as varnish gas will close the idle jet and stick the ball check in the accelerator pump system. Walt.
