I hate to kick up an old thread, but a friend of mine, Al Fisher, of Oregon, shoehorned a Hall Scott 1091 cubic inch model 400-0 out of a Kenworth fire truck into a 1951 Ford F-3. He worked for the Hall Scott engine company and swears by their engines. In my mind they built the best spark ignition truck engine of all time. I have heard stories of their model 400-0 butane engines, (virtually identical to the 998 cubic inch Hudson Invader engines), outpulling 8V71 Detroit Diesels and NRS Cummins 275's through the Rocky Mountains. If you ever get a chance, there is a fantastic series of vieos on youtube of the manufacturing of Hall Scott engines. The quality and care they put into their engines was second to none. It would be awfully difficult to get one of these into any Hudson, unless you put it in the bed of their pickup model!

The U S Coast Guard used Hall-Scott Defender engines in their 83 foot patrol boats that were built between 1941 and 1944. Some 83 footers did use Sterling Viking II engines, tho.
When decommissioned in the 1960's some were transferred to Cuba, at least one became a private yacht and several were, as I recall, converted into banana boats hauling bananas from Central American ports to U S gulf ports. If I remember right several of the old Coast Guard 125 footers also ended up as banana carriers.
