I worked in an ignition/electrical shop for many years. We replaced a lot of burned 60's wiring harnesses

.I don't recall ever replacing a burned out one in a 30's-40's car. Mostly just repair of frayed wires that were exposed.

I think the amp meters and bad switches were the biggest cause of fires/meltdown.
