There are 2 basic fallacies with the restore vs. rod argument:
1, rodders only take poor condition cars to rod. This simply is not true. What, do you think rodders are crazy and take on more work than they need to? Rodders, like restores look for the best candidate for their efforts. To take a rust bucket and spend needless hours re-doing it is just as dumb for a rodder as it is for a restorer. Every one of us knows this to be true. We all know of rare and desirable cars being rodded.
2, restorers don’t restore rust buckets or basket cases….. have you seen Paul Schuster’s “baby’ or the string on Russell Chilton’s 52 Hudson convert.
Having said that, there is no logical reason to be either a rodder or a restorer. It is a matter of personal taste. This issue will not be resolved any quicker than the age old debate over the best flavor of ice cream. But it is good conversation!!!!0 -

When I got my coupe it came home on three trailer loads, all the roof had gone, no floor and rust and absolutly nooooo information,I hadnt even heard of a Essex, I supposed thats why its taken 23years and 70+ k and stiill going
I was greatful that I had found a coupe of any sort
When you live down under the variety of cars, is plenty if you want to own a Morris minor or some sort of english thing which I have had a few, but at 24 sucked enough cash to buy my 1st American car a 57 chev 4 door and got the bug but unfortunitly I had to sell it to pay my deposit on my 1st home and thats when I put the word out for something to put in my garage(which came froma rodder) and she came along and we have had a love, hate relationship since then, I was so glad to get the internet that just helped me no end to get the coupe well on its way and I meet all you guys (and your apinions LOL)
Sometimes it all comes down to whats avalaible and to were you live
theres plenty of people down this way that Had no choice wheither a rodder or a restorer we had to start with rust buckets, its all about supply and demand0 -

I'll bet $25K was cheaper than starting over! And he already knows the car well. You only live once, so good for him! LOL0
