  • hey, i waited all day to see the 37 pick up and they jumped over it. if i did not have a guy here in oshawa putting his 57 t-bird on at lot #1590 i would shut this off. what now, wait and watch all day to have this one jumped too. the 40 ford built in 1955 was great but, 200 thou, nice time capsule that may have taken to long to sell, but why not show the t-plane. do i sound p-offed, hope so cause i am. not worth the energy to be that but i wanted to see it, the pics on web site not good. worked the grave yard shift last nite, came home and slept 3 hours. to be disappointed whaaaaaa, whaaaaaaa, whaaaaaa. this hobby can drive you crazy , if you let it. i feel better now, any way it went for $120,ooo i think. $175 to $120 1 year later. oh well not in the hobby to make money so. let me go sit in my coupe for awile. -20 celcius here and snow. dermott. lol.:)

Here are the results on your predictions (the closest guesses):

    54 Hudson 4 door - harry54 guessed 42,500 sold for 42,000
    53 Hornet Coupe - harry54 guessed 55,000 sold for 54,000
    51 Commodore 8 - Rick guessed 85,000 sold for 82,000
    37 Terraplane P/U - hudsondad guessed 140,000 sold for 125,000

I got the results of the BJ website (above amounts do not include the buyer commission of 10% which BJ includes in its website sales price). These sales prices are also not reduced for the 8% seller commission to be paid, so their cash-in-hand will be 8% less.

Interesting that most of you under estimated the 4 door and over estimated the Terraplane p/u.

On an interesting side note, my neighbor's 70 Challenger r/t re-creation (once owned by Alica Cooper they say) sold for 115,000 (not accounting commissions) for a profit of $69,000 (w/o auction fees), not bad I'd say.

    Thanks for everybody who participated.

Just a couple non-Hudson cars which I liked (though I wouldn't and couldn't pay those prices!):

56 Chevy 210 Station Wagon: 'cause thats what we had when I was a small boy and we used to drive it to the Bob's Bigboy in Whittier, CA every Thursday night, when they still had car hops! When I was 5 y.o. we stopped for gas somewhere in the mountains (I think around Yosemite) and I was playing with the gear shifter, when I knocked it into neutral and the car started to roll away from the pump headed for the cliffs, when my Dad jumped into the car and stopped it. I got a good smacking for that! The car has since never left our family and is currently owned by my step-uncle in SoCal.

69 Cougar XR7 Convertible: 'cause I once owned a '70 XR7 HT with the big block and all the extra goodies. After only making one payment though, a metal fatigued tie rod end broke at 70mph and I put her through 80' of cyclone fencing, thus putting an end to that car. But I had it in my last year of high school and had a lot of great times cruising that car for 2 months!

Any 55-56 Buick and Olds 2 door HT: 'cause I just like those body styles and almost bought a '56 Buick Special Convertible, but bought the Pacemaker 'cause I've always wanted a sled! Mama got out voted on that one!

I know we all think the prices are too high and its a playboy event, but I do like looking at and appreciating some of the cars of which I like. I just would never be a buyer there!

From the looks of the predictions and the outcome it looks like Harry54 bought all the Hudsons!

Darn - wish I'd gone to the auction with Cloyd (Steiner) - could have gotten that rodded '37 pickup and maybe a couple other Hudsons with the left over change!!!

Well, anybody out there with 37's, especially Terraplane pickups, once the news gets around, like cousin TK's rodded '37 for example, you got your retirement fund rolling around.

Auctions driving the market - again!! Trouble is it's mainly speculators buying these cars, gambling they'll resell at the next auction for more than they paid. Meantime, those that love and respect these cars are being priced out of the market.

    Sad.

Anyone else notice that the Orange County Chopper bike/car pairings went so low? Almost seemed affordable. $160K for the mid 50's Vette and matching bike, plus a tour of their shop.

Yeah, I noticed that last night as well. Does seem cheap for the pair, considering actual build costs. But personally, I'm not a big fan of OCC bike styling. Maybe I'm too ol skool in that respect and rode with too many ol' bikers in my day! lol

Even the single choppers don't seem to have gone for much either.

A friend of mine has been taping the BJ auction for me, since I don't get cable/dish/etc.. What a circus! They were saying that the bidder fee was $500 a piece, and that they expected over 5,000 bidders. Two and a half million dollars just in cover charge! Yikes!

It's amazing that they can hose everybody at every turn, and still fill up the place! $500 bidder signup, seller's commission, buyer's commission, admission fee, probably $10 beers and $12 hamburgers to boot! Is there an entry fee to get your car in the auction, too? I once thought it might be fun to go, but looking at the size of the place, I doubt anyone chintzy enough to just pay the basic admission fee could get close enough to even identify the car on the block. Wonder how much extra you have to pay to get a seat within shoutin' distance? Maybe I'm just jealous. . .
  • Well, judging from the ever increasing size of Craig Jackson's gut (and bloated face), I'd say he's at least been eating well. As far as the expenses related to attending BJ, most of these guys probably write them off as "business expenses." The regular Joe's/non-bidders are probably at a distance, but not far from the food court, beer stand and the official BJ crap that's for sale.
