Anyone want a freebie Super Wasp ?
Took a look at a '53 Super Wasp sedan today, but decided I have enough Hudsons already, so passed this one up.
However, the gentleman who owns the car has lost storage, (he lives in a townhouse), and he says the car is destined for the scrapyard if he dosen't find someone to rescue it !! Thusly, he'll even GIVE it away to someone who appreciates what a Hudson is, rather than see it crushed.
The car's owner's name is Gary Edge, and the car is in Winfield, British Columbia, just a few miles north of Kelowna. Gary is a nice Guy, and if I were to take the car, I'd happily give him a couple bucks for his troubles, even though he is asking nothing. I'm spooky about giving out his cell number on the internet, so maybe if you're interested, leave your email address here and I'll email it to you.
I'm experimenting (again), with resizing pictures, so bear with me, and I'll try and get six or seven up before too long.

According to Gary, the motor turns over freely, (its a 262 with manual trans), but the carb is off for rebuild at this time.0

I've got a couple more but I'll have to resize them AGAIN -- because even though they're done the same size as these ones, apparently they're a couple pixels more than the allowable limit !!
Frustrating !!!
I'll do them later.

Let's try this again -- trimmed the picture down a couple more times.0

Going by the interior photo, it appears to be a standard transmission.0
-
With a welding torch I'm guessing it could be saved, or 100% dismantled and many parts saved.0
-
What a shame it's 1,825 miles away! Even at free, it would be over $600 for fuel alone to go and get! But, that is half what the cost would've been back in July!0

I hope someone grabs that Hudson. Its too far from me but it couldnt have sat out long because the floor appears solid. Looking closer I think I see an Overdrive Knob???I would give the Guy something too..
Probably take too long to get it an Add in the White Triangle so If anyone knows someone in that area that may be interested but not in the Forum let them know and/or tell the Owner to put it on EBay. Its sure to sell quick for his low asking price.0 -
This is not going to be a pretty sight, seeing someone stab the sides with a forklift, slam it into the crusher, and squash it down to 18" high !!
I'm glad I won't have to watch that if it does happen !!
Might as well have some fun with the seats too, and set fire to that 55 year old original material. Creamation works for some of us, and I'd rather end my days that way than rot in a scap heap !
Such a sad ending for a gracious old girl.

Uncle Josh wrote:'There's no such thing as a free puppy'
If you're insinuating that this is some kind of scam "Uncle Josh", I can assure you it is not ! I brought a trailer with me when I went and looked at the car, and Gary practically begged me to load it up and take it away before the wrecker came, no charge. ( Actually, that's why he called me in the first place, because he knew I appreciate what a Hudson is, and would probably care for it as best I could). If I didn't already have too many Hudsons to care for, and store, I'd have done just that, but then I'd be worrying about it every time it snowed or rained because I have no more room inside for it, and eventually I'd be giving it away just like Gary is doing because I too could not care for it properly. We all know what havoc a tarp job can wreak on a car, and I simply won't do that to any more cars. That one I learned the hard way.
If you mean it will cost money to bring it back, well, of course it will --- what Hudson dosen't, or any other car for that matter.
Yeah, it'll cost some gas, some time, and some work maintaining the car in storage later, and that could be interpreted as "no free lunch", but the old girl should give some of that back, especially if its got an overdrive trans, and/or a runable engine. Gary said he put a battery in it, spun it over to see if it was free ( it was ), and decided since it was running when parked, it should be possible to start it up again, with a carb rebuild, and some new plugs. Lights went on, ( don't know if the radio worked, or if he tried that, but its there anyway.) He never did finish the project however, and there it sits, for only a few more days.
Never thought I'd see the day when you can't even give a Hudson away !!

Ryan-
Why not pick it up and bring it to the Nat'l.? Don't you have enough room in your trailer for two cars? I'm sure someone there would even buy it from you for a few hundred for your trouble and that way the car wouldn't go to the crusher. Even if this car wasn't saved, the parts alone are worth the trouble of doing something with it.0 -

Unfortunately Russell, my trailer is big enough for one car and a lot of "other" stuff, but not for two cars. As soon as the convertible is done I'll have to upgrade to a two car unit though, as Anne will not want to leave "her" car behind when we're on the show circuit.
Also right now my trailer is housing a car too, because I've plumb plugged the garages with cars, and car # 11 is stuck with living in the trailer. I actually had to rent an open trailer to go and maybe fetch this car, but when I saw it I thought that I could easily find someone who'd want it via this forum, so passed it up telling Gary I was pretty sure I'd be able to help him save it from the crusher by putting the word out.
Gary is not particularly "Hudson savey", but he knows what a Hudson is, because his Dad ( like mine ), had a couple when he was a kid, and told him if he ever stumbled over one, not to let it get away, because someday they'd be pretty rare. Anyway, to make a long story shorter, he has a soft spot for this old girl, but can no longer care for her, so she's gotta go. The landowner where it sitting says get it outtta here, or the wrecker will be doing it for him.
Hopefully, he'll be patient for a few more days.0 -
One more I missed struggling with resizers.
( Man oh man ) the first try turned out to be 98.6 kb !! Forum kicked it because it wants 97.7 !!
Picky, picky, pickey, pickey !!!
Guess I'm just getting cranky in my old age !! Maybe I should be putting the pictures on my own website where you can really see some detail.
We'll see what develops.0 -

Got a PM from a fellow who lives in Kelowna, just a few miles away. Gave him Gary's number. Maybe he'll save this old girl for us.0

OK
About 5000 mile R.T. for me, wanna ride along ? Might end up with free room and board for the winter !!!0 -
Got Gary's number (owner of the car) from Silverone and gave him a call .
Says the car has to be out of there by end of the month! If I put another car on my city lot here in Kelowna I will end up with living on 1/2 half a pension (divorce) or be run out by the neighborhood, but I would be willing to have it towed to a friend acreage and store it there til next spring or summer if someone is really interested in it or maybe I could part it out as it dosn't have any paper with it. As a HET member I hate to see go to the crusher.
Kelowna is 2hr north of the US ,Oroville crossing.
If anyone is interested let me know.

Estimated Time: 7 hours Estimated Distance: 386 miles x 2
14 hours, 772 miles round trip, 225.00 for fuel
I've got the rig and trailer to go but by the time you got her loaded up and with food and doggy-potty breaks that'd be close to 18-20 hours there and back again...doable...but, too much and too far to do by myself.0 -
Wish it wasn't soooo far myself as being from Massachusetts. If anyone picks it up for parts and would like to sell the seats I would be very interested.
