It has to be about 1000 miles for me but I'm thinking about it.

Frankly, I am stunned. You are all on here talking about what a great deal it is and how you wish you had room or the time or the few hundred dollars of gas to pick it up ...
A few short months ago I offered my Pacemaker for 500. It is in much better shape than this one, has an overdrive trans, 2 door coupe etc. All I got was people talking about what a shame it was that Canada was so far. PEOPLE! I DRIVE INTO NEW YORK STATE TO PICK UP PARTS SEVERAL TIMES A SEASON! IT'S A FEW HOURS, A CUP OF COFFEE AND A DRIVE!!!
And so here you are again bemoaning the distance and talking about the deal. IF YOU LIKE IT, PICK IT UP -- OR SHUT UP!
It's a great deal. Just do it. Spend a few hours on the weekend, take the wife or a buddy along, enjoy the scenery, buy some decent beer whilst you are in Canada, and bring the car back.0 -
#1. Traveling great distances isn't possible for everyone.
#2 It's not polite to tell people on this forum to shut up.0 -
Believe me, if we had the same gas prices a month ago and I did not have to tow a damn car trailer through snow (been there, done that, never again!), this thread would've never got beyond the second post. Yeah, i can drive up there right now for less than a grand (only have to do a hotel one night of four - have relatives along the way), but in November, through CO, WY, MT, ID and THEN have a border crossing with all the border BS to endure - fuggetaboutit!
Plus, vacation time from work while the kiddies are still in school...if I'm burning five days of vacation time, I want to be able to take my time and actually ENJOY the trip and not have to haul a$$ both ways, free car or not.0 -
Man, I'm thinking the same thing, all the way up through California, Oregon and Washington then the border BS. What are the rules about bringing a car from Canada.

Agreed, this is not the time of year for a 3,000 mile trip(for me) through the mountains.:(0 -
Some of you guys crack me up. You don't want to pay for something but then you're willing to pay twice what it is worth in expense to pick it up.0

I don't see anyone willing to pay the time or expense of picking it up, that seems to be the problem. It's too far away to make free worthwhile. It's not like you could fly up and drive it home. This is a drag a trailer both ways, probably two days each up, a day to get it loaded and moving and then three or more days home.I guess I'm just getting too old, that doesn't sound like fun any more.

To answer about re-importing a car from Canada, I did it just last summer with a 49 Dodge. The important thing is having a title/paperwork chain on the car, and it's a breeze. Be sure and tell the Border Patrol that you need the 7501 to immediately re-register the car tho, since lot of times with old cars they are reluctant to give the form since it may get lost before the end of restoration when I guess a lot of folks retitle.0
-
Jase, do you ask for that form going into Canada or coming out?
Harry0 -
When we went to Canada two years ago, they asked for a passport. We did not have one and Canada let us in, as we were just camping at Waterton Lakes National Park. Returning to the USA, was much worse, as they almost would not let us back in without a passport, and it was quite a hassle.0

Free...that's a bit of a misnomer...my free time, what little there is is worth at "least" what I make OTJ - if it was in Port Orchard - I would have picked it up already
The distance and fuel costs aren't keeping me from pursuing this car...it's the time and effort required to do an 18-20 hour round trip ~ it's just not worth the "free car" to me when I have 6 vehicles to work on already!
:rolleyes:0 -
Hey Rambo,
If it was in Port Orchard I would have beat the wife and you to it, since I live there! LOL

Looks like Dan & Rambo could recruit a new partner in crime!0

Gas is now at $2 or a bit over, even under in some places, so you all quit squalin about cost, do the math , good gosh, you want it delivered ? If you got the time off from other obligations somebody go get this thing, I would even at 5000 mile R-T, nice little vacation, load up MOMMA and see some country. I would if I just had the time BUD0
-
Well, I'm always up for a road trip. If either Dan or T Jeff want to go after it, I'll go along, spell you on the driving and add my invaluable assistance on jacking that sucker onto your trailer. Shoot me a PM.0
